Cindy's Thoughts on Gentle Mothering

To me, gentle mothering ultimately means thinking of my child as a *person*, a unique individual, rather than someone who's under my authority. While I do believe that children are under their parents' authority, I believe that many Christians today have an unnatural obsession with "control" over their children, to the point that they lose sight of their humanity, treating them more like pets. As we think of our children as unique individuals, human beings, I think that we will just naturally fall into a gentle mothering lifestyle.

I think that through gentle mothering, a child learns trust. Through us, they learn what God is like. If they cannot trust us, why should they trust God? When we came to Christ, did we come because of His justice or His discipline? I think that most of us came because of His love, and our trust in Him. Because we learn this love and trust first in our relationship with our Heavenly Father, it makes sense that our children should learn this love and trust first in our relationship with them.

Cindy's Testimony

I was raised in a "Christian" home. I knew the ways of the Lord before I could even comprehend them all. : ) I remember praying that God would save me when I was 6 years old, and I believe that's when I was saved. However, I dedicated my life to Him, and started living for Him, having a change in my thinking toward dedication to Him when I was about 13 or so. I have since tried to live for Him. : )
