Karen McIntosh (Gentle Dove)![]() ![]() ![]() Karen's Thoughts on Gentle MotheringGentle Mothering to me does not mean that you let the children run the place or get away with murder. It does mean though, raising them in the love of the Lord. Jesus was "gentle," but He also could take a very firm stand when confronted! I know some view "gentleness" as weakness, but I feel that true Godly gentleness has a strength to it. In that gentleness is where children know how far they can push mom, but also that she is always there for them and will move heaven and earth for them.Gentle mothering is so important because it does show the children God in all His Wonderful ways. It shows love, mercy, strength, kindness, forgiveness, correction. It shows the children the Father (God). Instilling these things in a child's life (I believe) sets the children on a godly path that leads to righteousness. Why does God want me to parent like this? Hmmmmm.....*scratches head* Well, I don't really have a choice to be blunt! I am a gentle person. I always have been and always will be. Before I gave my life to Jesus, I used to hate that about my self. I viewed "gentleness" as "weakness". Then as I began to grow in the Lord, and read His Word, I found out lo and behold that He IS GENTLE! It is part of His very nature. This gentleness He has placed within me is a fruit of His Holy Spirit, so now I cherish it! I've seen way to often (in the little friends my children bring home), that sometimes in my opinion the parenting is severe. Lots of punishment abounds, but the tenderness and love seem to be lacking. This results in the wee ones (at an early age) becomeing hard and calloused. Such a shame! I guess I could say that it is how I see parenting put forth in the Word of God! I guess that sums it up nicely! |
