I MUST HURRY

I must not delay much longer
To achieve my goals in life
For the growing ills of Winters
Dampen will and foster strife;
And I must fulfill a promise
That I made, in youthful days -
Many times to be remembered
And as many times delayed.

There are, also, chores and duties
I must hurry to complete -
Some of need and some of fancy
That would make my joys replete,
But I recognize one duty -
Far more urgent than the rest -
That demands my first fulfillment,
As the dearest and the best.

In my simple modes of living,
That prevail from day to day,
I have failed - in love and duty -
To the hearts for whom I pray;
Gentle hearts of faith and caring
Who have loved me through the years
And are partners to my struggles
And companions to my tears.

Every one a daily blessing,
I've neglected to adore
For - when blessings are so common -
They are easy to ignore
Now, I hurry to embrace them.
Every one, without delay
And the rest of all my duties
Must await another day.
