Crested Butte is quite a ski town. The resort pegs it as "the last great ski town" and I certainly won't argue. There's very few franchises, it's western character is very appealing and it has a pleasant atmosphere with neat shops and restaurant - but it isn't too touristy. And speaking of restaurants. This little town, like many ski towns, has many very good eateries. In our opinion, the big winners are Lil's Land and Sea and The Wooden Nickel.
You can see see the "ski hill" from pretty much anywhere in the town. Case in point, this church provides quite a nice foreground for the magnificent peak in the distance.
Something done here that you don't see very often is riding bicycles in the snow. The locals ride these old single speed, fat tired, heavy bikes with coaster breaks. Just like the ones the baby boomers rode when growing up.
Another pleasant building and setting. This is the Bakery Cafe - complete with snow sliding off the roof. They have great sandwiches at this place.
And here's a little photo art. I liked the contrast between the white aspen branches and the bright red wall. The icicles were a bonus.
