E.J, Dominic, and Dad visit Dale Jarrett's #88 car at a local Ford dealer
In 1998 Jarrett's simulator stopped by Central Square. Here's EJ with the hauler.
One Sunday afternoon during the spring of 1997 we were all outside doing yardwork when EJ became a bit cranky and Chris and I decided that EJ needed a nap. In Dad goes to get him to relax with some TV. As I flip the stations I go past a Winston Cup race that E.J insists will stay on. To make a long story short 30 minutes later EJ is asleep and Dad is HOOKED!!. When the Winston Cup races come to Watkins Glenn (about 120 miles from my home) many cars will be around. Dale Jarrett's #88 car came in and the boys went and visited. EJ was very shy and the pit crew member who was present was very nice to take our photo. He also told me if I waited about 10 minutes he'd be loading the car and the boys could hear it. You should have seen their faces when he started it up and spun the tires for them. It made it all worthwhile!! I will be going to Talladega in October 1997 and EJ's first Winston Cup race is planned on 7/4/98 for the Pepsi 400 in Daytona!!
Here are some photos of a little trip I took the boys on. I decided to take my
boys to see some race cars that were displayed at a tractor trailer dealer about 20 miles from our
house. The top photo is of E.J. and Nicky with Michael Andretti's Indy car. E.J. told me he really
wanted to touch it but they won't let me. Also, displayed was Bobby Hamilton's Winston Cup car
(formerly Richard Petty's car, now owned by him). These are the cars that E.J. really knows and he
loved it. Unfortunately, my film ran out and Nicky unrolled the spare so this was all I got. Missing are
photo op's of EJ in NASCAR modified and DIRT cars that run in the area. He met the drivers who
gave them both autographed photos and talked to them for a while. They were a great bunch of
people and I thank them for their hospitality.
