The Legend of Dreamcatchers
There are several different variations of the legend of how the
dreamcatcher came to pass, but overall they have the same
result. The two major variations of the legend are as follows.
One story tells of how with the dreamcatcher the good in their
dreams is captured in the web of life and carried with them, but
the evil in their dreams escapes through the hole in the center of
the web and is no longer a part of them. They believe that the
dream catcher holds their destiny.

Another story explains how the jagged edges of
the bad dreams are tangled on the webring and
are then destroyed by the morning sun, while the
good dreams, in the night air, are able to filter
smoothly through the center hole and find their
way through to the sleeping child.
Either way, the result is still the same, the good
dreams and thoughts stay with you and the bad dreams go away.
So what exactly is a dreamcatcher? A dreamcatcher is generally
a circle, which is made of wood and covered with leather. Inside
the circle is the web, usually made of deer sinew (which these
days is artifical sinew because it is illegal to use real dear
tendon). Most commonly, the types of decorations include,
leather lace with beads and feathers adorned from the circle.
Beads can also be added to the web.
