Paris, part II

Musee Rodin is in an old house and has a peaceful garden in the back. Its a wonderful little place. Below is the famed Thinker.

The next stop was the Arch de Trioumph. It is amazing. Climb the stairs for a great view from up there.

I finished the day off by seeing Sacre Coeur atop Montmartre. I almost didn’t go because some tourbooks said it was too touristy and loaded with pickpockets. Probably true but I was impressed by the basilica and the view of Paris from there is heavenly.

I wish to thank my wonderful hosts Christine and Jean-Gabriel. It was great to come home from sightseeing to talk with them in the evening. They have a little one, Romain, so it isn't easy for them to go touring. So they armed me with their maps and best advice on what to see. I most enjoyed their terrific home cooking and their willingness to share about life in their country. We talked about national politics, Paris city life and sports! Rugby was in as the French were doing very well in the Rugby World Cup.

Travel tip

Buy a phrase book and use it!! The French are pretty friendly people if you make a good faith effort to communicate with them in French. It didn't take long for them to figure out I really can't speak French. But it seemed that my mangled attempts at the language were appreciated. So with a phrase book, a notepad, a smile and a spirit of adventure, you too can enjoy France. If I can do it, *anyone* can!
