first saw Jacobs Ladder two days ago, i can honestly say i have never seens omething
so impacting. Strangely enough, having scanned many various reviews of the film,
not one seems to mention anything at all about the drug 'BZ' used by the U.S military
upon the grunts, also how through the entire film that the flashbacks of NAM are
actually the true reality of what's going on whilst his life in Brooklyn is actually
just the intense 'trip' that the drug has spun him into. Jacobs
Ladder has generated more discussion on these pages than any other film. I don't
believe it is an intense "trip", but more of how his mind is coming
to terms with death and the chaos and fear that accompanies his last minutes alive.

is easily in the top ten of any list. Futhermore, it is William Wallace narating
in the end, and not Robert the Bruce. If you are going to quote an excellent movie,
at least show some respect and do it accurately. Finally, if it was not for Scarface,
there would no Carlito's Way. It is a great movie, but it is not better than its
predecessor. You guys should really consider revising your list. Brian...I've
decided recently that Mel Gibson is a bafoon (Signs, We Were Soldiers, The Patriot,
Conspiracy Theory...). Braveheart is a very good movie,
but top hundred is really pushing it. Sean Penn's performance puts Carlito's
Way ahead of Scarface in my opinion...I know many

call Pulp Fiction over-rated, I call it genius. What I like best about Pulp Fiction
and what is a major fault of many other movies is that in Pulp Fiction, not every
word uttered by the characters is a freakin' plot point. The interplay between
the characters and their dialogue are absolute genius and set this movie apart.
Movies that use dialogue to only devulge plot points would be akin to Picasso
drawing a picture using only straight lines. Pulp Fiction like Dr. Strangelove
and some others is a film that gets BETTER with each viewing. Respectfully

Ladder was supposedly about the effects of BZ gas, which was used in Vietnam. I

is a anticholinergic incapacitating agent that blocks the action of acetylcholine
in the central nervous system. It disturbs higher integrative functions of memory,
problem-solving, attention and comprehension; high doses produces toxic delirium
which completely destroys the ability to perform any military task. Symptoms of
BZ include dry, flushed skin, fast heartbeat, slowing of mental and physical activity,
headaches, giddiness, disorientation, and hallucinations. BZ is found as a white
powder at room temperature; decomposition occurs at 170 degrees C. Effects are
transitory (hours to days) and have no known long term effects; lethality could
only occur if the subject harmed himself under the influence of BZ. Training tapes
of soldiers exposed to BZ showed them regressing to a juvenile state of behavior,
unresponsive to commands, unable to carry out simple tasks or negotiate obstacles,
complete lack of memory. After recovery, test subjects could not remember the
experience and showed only disorientation due to inability to recollect the time
they were exposed to BZ. The Army abandoned this as a potential weapon due to
the difficulty of dispensing BZ in significant quantities to achieve agent effects.
Also, planners were concerned that BZ poisoned soldiers would still be a danger
since they would become unpredictable and ungoverned by rational thought. Conceivably,
BZ poisoned soldiers could still "push the button" because it seemed like a pretty
good joke at the time. Granted, nuclear release is a little more involved than
just pushing a button, but you get the picture. The movie "Jacob's Ladder" was
supposedly based on BZ experiments on unknowing soldiers, which caused them to
go into a homicidal rage. In a word - bullshit. As stated above, BZ poisoning
causes soldiers to regress and become apathethic, not killing machines. DISCLAIMER:
This knowledge comes from memory of US Army Chemical Officer Basic/Advanced Course
instruction and accuracy is not guaranteed.

wonderful place to be at times. My favourite film of all time is probably Leon
(but not for the violence). I don't understand all the hatred heaped on Gladiator,
it was well made and a decent story, what more do you want. I'd love to see the
armchair critics have a go at making a movie. Sorry there are no real "classics"
but I only get to watch movies I have in my DVD collection.My

thanks for remembering 'Trading Places'! I still crack up at this movie every
time I watch it. My favorite scene is when Billy Ray is in the jail cell trying
to be Mr. Cool Guy to the other cell mates. 'It ain't cool bein' no jive turkey,
so close to Thanksgiving.' I would have to add 'Coming to America', 'What's Eating
