If you're going to review movies and post them publicly, learn to spell; OR find someone who CAN spell and ask that person to edit your work! I read one review and found at least three spelling errors. It is hard to take a review seriously when it appears the author has no education.

On 3/22/04 Barbara Lopez (neaj_tsuj@yahoo.com) submitted the following:

The Last Temptaton of Christ is absurd, BLASPHEMOUS and pure EVIL. I wonder how the film maker and the writer can live their daily lives without realizing the defamation they had done. I pity you. On the other hand, THE PASSION OF CHRIST is a "must-see film". A very good one which touches the lives and hearts of christians and believers alike. I believe Mel Gibson has done
what he should and did it gracefully and courageously. It is a movie for everybody who can ACCEPT that they are truly sinners. For those people and organizations trying to pull the movie down, may GOD ENLIGHTEN YOUR MINDS AND HEARTs. ACCEPTANCE OF OUR SHORTCOMINGS, MISGIVINGS AND SINS in our lives will make us all the more watch THE PASSION OF CHRIST. Those who have watched the film , I believe wouldn't in their hearts want to see the very hurt and
sufferings Jesus had for us. BUT MIND YOU PEOPLE!!!! They were able to finish the movie because they ACCEPTED truly that we are all SINNERS. HOW ABOUTYOU????

I hope this is going to Josh Levin.

1. Some antisemitic staffer over there added "The" to "Citizen Kane."

2. I really wanted to comment on your review of "The Passion of the Christ." Gibson seems to find violence ennobling, independent of anything else. I'll not forget the scene in "Braveheart" where the gay guy got tossed out of a window. Gibson's kind of deluded, I think, and wrapping himself now in a crown of thorns, so to speak. Too bad. He seemed kind of nice in "Lethal Weapon" and other films.

It's mind blowing to see that the majority of these lists are made up of American films.. How about getting a larger perspective instead of concentrating on the one industry that pollutes cinemas across the world with ninety- five percent of what it produces. There's a whole other world out there
folks and it's a hell of a lot more interesting than the old U.S of A. Get up off your botties, walk out the door, stroll down the street to your local Multiplex...and keep on walking.

Devil LOST. It is just a matter of time before God, Jesus Christ, comes back to call His Children. Only a Fool, such as you are, would write such trash and believe in it.

I agree that Indian Runner deserves a lot more attention than it has. The opening scene with the car coming out of the screen from behind is simply stunning. The whole movie is a textbook for . directors. Why Sean Penn doesn't stick with his talents is beyond me. Thanks for your review. Lars

the JFK movie does not have any true revelations in its script. oliver stone uses false facts and creates misleading information to convince the audience that there is more to the story than has previously met the eye. in other words, most of the movie is bull shit. any theory that is supported by facts revealed in the movie are simpky not true and never too place. oliver stone, while an extraordinary visionary, storyteller, and director, has no proof that any information and facts in the story are true because there isn't any support or documentation for most of the facts, need be startling and interesting to spice up interest in the movie, but unfortunatly oliver stone is a liar when he states his movie is accurate...he uses a technique in his defense that says there is nothing contradicting the facts of his case...more importantly, there is nothing to support that what he tates is true.

I disagree. For those interested in this subject, check out the following sites (AC 10/23/04):

hey man:
what's shaking? just visited you website, and re-read the message from the guy who condescended to my note re: surly site users, and he's correct. first of all, as you can tell by scrolling down, i tend
to be a bit wordy, meaning that i'm a little flashy with the vocabulary at times and that i'm also little self-satisfied (but i'm a writer, that's what i'm paid ((poorly)) to do, which means, like most writers, i've also cleaned out my fair share of public restrooms, donated my fair share of plasma and learned how to operate heavy machinery). either way, if i've learned one thing, ay least when it comes to film, everyone's an expert. secondly, anyone willing to publish their opinions, whether in a letter to the editor, or a top 100 list, suffers, at best, from a little egomania (including said author's response to my original letter (as well as, or course, my original letter), the point of which, i had hoped, was to defend the brothers caldwell and most of the folks who visit your site from the drunkards who continue to leave mean-spirtited messages ~ something of which ((surprise!)) i have been both guilty and ashamed). he's also correct, i believe, that our generation is a bit self-indulgent by making lists in the first place, but what can you say? the end of the millinium sent shockwaves of lists throughout western culture. who can forget A&E's 100 most influential people of the last 1,000 years, let alone AFI's 100 american films, and (i believe) random house's top 100 books written in the english language of the 20th century. also, if i remeber correctly, VH1 posted and broadcast at least one or two top 100 (blank) of all time lists. of course, omissions of any sort resulted in the creation of only more lists, like 100 best films, period, regardless of the director's nationality and the script's language. after all, how can you have all those great films lists, like AFI's, neglecting every foreign film (ie, made outside the u.s.) ever made. to make matters worse, as your website points out, how does one classify hitchcock? american? foreign? a bit of both? and so they began. top 100 comedies. worst 100 films. top 100 records. top 100 album covers of the last decade, etc. the lists: entertainment, entertainment, entertainment. nothing about top 10 dictators of all time, let alone the 20th century. but actually, if i also remember correctly, journalists and historians, a few years back, ranked u.s. presidents from top to bottom in order of their greatest accomplishments, using as a variable, the difficulty of the challenges they faced while their administrations served. so, there you go. lists. ridiculous and insignificant, but something i (and many of my brothers and sisters) seem to have spent a lot of time compiling. may god have mercy on us all.

if i can make one last defense of the site: sure, we're all experts, but, with cinema tickets ranging from $8-$10, and because of the net, and sites like this one, as well as the much-needed creation of a company like netflix, people no longer have to rely on their leonard malitin handbooks and one of the three blockbusters in their hometown to find movies they want to see. what you can find here, if you're interested, is a community-of-sorts, made up of users can agree, disagree, argue, priase, teach and learn.

so here you go: my list of 2003's best films (though it should be noted that there were plenty of films i did not see because i simply did not want to see them (for some reason, there's something about the lord of the rings movies i do not get, even though everybody else does, and from what i can tell, something is in fact there, and the films are made with integrity and blend the magic of action and art. still, i have no idea what's there. maybe someday it will dawn on me the way it did when it finally dawned on me that the ramones and hank williams crafted wonderful music), where, at the same time, there were populist films i did see (matrix reloaded & revolutions) which, most will agree, we all could have done without.

enough chatter. it's a little political, but here it is:

1.) lost in translation
2.) the weather underground
3.) the trials of henry kissinger
4.) gerry
5.) naqoqatsi
6.) spellbound
7.) rivers and tides

Aaron, you would do better if you did not resort to name calling, political pigeonholing and contempt for those who disagree with you. Where's all that compassion, tollerance and open mindedness you supposedly admire and expect in this modern day? Do you reserve your openmindedness and tolerance only for those who agree with your own parameters of same? So much for those concepts! If not you need to rewrite some of your reviews and do a little research before spouting off about subjects you are woefully ignorant about. Try a little REAL tollerance and REAL understanding beyond your current limitations and see how much further you can grow.

What review sent you into such a fit Rick? Get a life you moron. (AC 10/23/04)

Hello. One of my absoute, favorite movies in 1984 was "Amadeus." What sticks in my mind, and haven't found, were the truffles served to Amadeus'wife, during the selling of a few of hiw works to Antonio Salieri. They were in the shape of women's breasts, and were quite a conversation piece! She must have devoured two, or three of them, with sheer delight! Is there such a place to purchase them? - anywhere?? I have scoured the interenet,, to no avail. Reply would be extremely appreciated. Thank you for your time. Esther Delmatier

I was upset by your review of the Last Temptation of Christ. First of all, I am unfamiliar with the term "religious atheist" but it sounds like an oxymoron to me. Secondly, the historocity of the Bible has been proven time and again, as well as the existence of Jesus Christ -- I'm not sure why it took a movie for you to see that. Thirdly (and most importantly), your assessment of Christian "fanatics and fundamentalists" is shortsighted and without substantive proof. Bible believing, born again Christians fervently purport the accuracy of the Bible, reading it in the context of time, place, author and using the original Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic texts. In closing, I suggest you look into intelligent Christian readings. We are not all crazy right-wing Ned Flanders - if you like good authors then look at books authored by Lee Strobel, C.S. Lewis and other Christian authors. ~Dawn

Unlike alot of the people that visit this site I did grow up on older movies 30s 40s 50s, and have an appreciation regardless of having it imprinted on my mind. And having this advantage almost makes me look down upon anybody of this generation giving there top 100 films or giving their opinions
that are obviously oxford encyclipedia driven,(in short they want to sound educated and intelligent, don't forget people the purpose of language is to communicate, i could use words like nefacious and insoucient but would only come off as thinking too much of myself,THEY ARE JUST WORDS Example: lugubrious and squalid? no need for it) anyways Iv'e found that older movies when done right are much more innovative like NOTORIOUS alfred hitchcock: CITIZEN KANE orson welles: REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE nicholas ray: THE GODFATHER coppola: and the only director to even come up with something new this past generation is Martin Scorcese. Some movies come to mind that were critically acclaimed but to me were obviously trying to be something it never amounted to FIGHT CLUB like the movie but hate the hoaky camera work SNATCH again bad camera work obviously trying to be innovative and anything Quintin Tarentino did. In short to sum it up like frank Sinatra's voice some of those old movies did things people could only dream about.... heres my list. 1. casablanca 2. touch of evil 3. notorious 4. citizen kane 5. on the waterfront 6. the third man 7. lady from shanghai 8. duck soup (the marx brothers) 9. it's a wonderful life 10. a place in the sun 1.
