hi! i'm a fundementalist right-winged Christian. no, i don't go around burning things, i just believe the basic principles of the Bible as truth. (fundamentalism: an attitude stressing literal adherence to a set of basic principles). so anyway, i was reading your review on the Last Temptation of Christ because a very close friend of mine who happens to be a hardcore athiest told me to go rent it. i agree, i also like movies that can expand your mind and make you look at the world differently. however, i found your remarks about the views of Christians highly intolerant. Christ is my beautiful savior, my best friend, my all in all. not some crazy guy who thought he was God. the so-called "christians" who i agree, are ignorant, are not doing the kingdom of God any good by using violence to prove their point. it's hypocrisy. but anyway, whether the film be quality or not, it is anti-christian propoganda and if you read the bible it is clear that the message of the ! film is completely inaccurate. well, please e-mail me if you ever have the time! i'm interested in people with views like yours, and even though i may be just a 15 year old girl, i love talking about theology!

On 03/07/02 kyle (kylemcgaw_2@37.com) submitted the following:

i was a little surpised by your top 100 list. you have to admit it is a little unorthodox. not including godfather, jaws, the untouchables, and movies of that quality. but putting all the right moves on the list! how about risky business next...or even steel magnolias?

Kyle...I have Godfather II on my list. I enjoyed Jaws and The Untouchables as well, but as I'm sure your aware, I can't include every film I have enjoyed. If you want safe or standard choices, I suggest the AFI's list. Click Here. (AC 4/27/02)

Great Site and keep updating. hey exodus is the movie that your looking for is Basic Instinct.

On 03/02/02 KeyserSoze (gnp1@ukc.ac.uk) submitted the following:

One of my favourite films is the french movie L'Appartement (1996) starring Vincent Cassell and Monica Bellucci and directed by Gilles Mimouni. It's a romantic mystery thriller. It really is a MASTERPIECE and it's a shame not a lot of people know it. It was never released in the USA. It won a BAFTA best foreign film award and it was nominated for 2 Cesar Awards (Bellucci, Mimouni). Anyone who hasn't seen this film should try to. DON'T MISS IT, you won't regret it.

My favourite movies are Mulholland Drive, Se7en, The Usual Suspects, The Godfather Trilogy, L.A. Confidential, Goodfellas, Carlito's Way, Requiem for a Dream, Pulp Fiction, JFK, Heat, Das Boot, The Shawshank Redemption, The Silence of the Lambs, Before Sunrise and High Fidelity.

Thank you for the suggestion. Based on some of your favorite movies...it appears your taste is very good...so I'll have to check out L' Appartement (1996). (AC 3/9/02)

What a great site! I love movie lists - and was v impressed with your 2 personal lists. "Last Temptation" is in my top 5 and is I believe criminally under-rated. Have you ever seen this list http://www.usccb.org/fb/vaticanfilms.htm Its films approved by the vatican and an interesting read...

On 02/19/02 Frank Orena (forena@limra.com) submitted the following:

I read Mark's review of 'A Clockwork Orange' and just wanted to say that I think he missed the point. The movie is about social control and how dangerous it can be if left to a select few. Alex clearly loses his ability to make a choice and is rendered defenseless. I think what Anthony Burgess is trying to say and what Kunrick illustrates so well is that while violence is bad, social control is much worse. Frank Orena

It is great because it is the the salvations on thousands. It is a story about the perseverance of tens of thousands, it is not just about one man. Secondly, where was The Shawshank Redempion...i feel its, without question, one of the great stories ever told on the screen and has the best ending ever, and the acting is flawless.

Interested that you listed the travesty of a sequel 'Beyond Thunderdome' without mentioning the first 2 mad max films.

The debate continues....Let me give you an excerpt from the highly respected film critic, Roger Ebert. (AC 3/9/02)

Ebert writes:

It's not supposed to happen this way. Sequels are not supposed to be better than the movies that inspired them. The third movie in a series isn't supposed to create a world more complex, more visionary and more entertaining than the first two. Sequels are supposed to be creative voids. But now here is ``Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome,'' not only the best of the three Mad Max movies, but one of the best films of 1985.

How could you guys forget fight club? that is my most favorite movie and it has changed my life and made me think of things and society much more clearer just because of watching it.

Jedediah...I personally thought Fight Club had incredible visuals, but the plot, which revolves around a guy who is literally punching himself, was a little too much for me to take. As far as shedding light on our meaningless day-to-day lives...I knew work sucked before I started working. Thanks for pointing out this flick. (AC 3/9/02)

On 02/03/02 Sarah (twistedevil79@hotmail.com) submitted the following:

Keith...Our two lists are personal and not a melting pot derived from millions of votes....they were never intended to be. I am in agreement that the IMDB is an excellent reference for movies and is far better than our little site. (AC 3/9/02)

On 01/24/02 Peter Bureau (peterbureal@aol.com) submitted the following:

I agree with Joe Gomez and others who feel that Godfather II is at least as good, if not better than Godfather I. The plot is much more complex, and the acting great. Godfather III sucked. Confusing and boring plot, overacting by Pacino, terrible acting by Ms. Coppola (bless her heart, I read she has really made it as a director).

I agree that Godfather II holds a slight edge to Godfather I. (AC 3/7/02)

On 01/11/02 Jennifer G. Fels (Clobber6@aol.com) submitted the following:

I am writing to you because I am intersted in some information dealing with The Vietnam War. I like to create my own fictional stories in my free time. I am currently working on a story delaing with an OB/GYN who is well respected and well liked as a physician. He is one of the best in the Greenwood/Waterfall Valley area. However, he suffers from a form of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder believed to have been brought on from experiences during his tour of duty in The Vietnam War. He has been under treatment but decides he has it under control and decides to go off his therapy. He begins to have flashbacks and memories of the war, which nearly cost him his ability to practice medicine. the story works out in his favor and he goes back to seeking treatment for his PTSD. Anyway, I am having a difficult time gathering the research I need to "put it all together" in terms of tying all the research together for my story. I need some information in regards to what sources of contact I could use to gather information dealing with the war. What do I need to do to add to the enrichment of my story in terms of finding information about the war. I want to find ways of taking that information I learn about the war and plugging it in to my story in a paraphrased form of the original material to prevent plagarism of any kind. I thought that you would be an expert of who to contact since you all gathered such wonderful information and research that helped to be woven into such a wonderful "blockbuster" movie and story. If there is any way you can point me in the right dirction of who I amy get in contact with, I would greatly appreciate it. Sincerely, Jennifer G. Fels p.s. THis is the first story I have thought of "putting out there" for possible publication. This is all new to me.

Jennifer...it sounds like you have some wonderful ideas here, but unfortantly I don't think I can help you out (this shit is over my head!) If anyone can be of assistance, email Jennifer at the following address: Clobber6@aol.com (AC 3/6/02)

Hey guys, I thoroughly enjoyed your lists. I agree with a lot and disagree with a lot, but hey that's expected right? Anyway, I am young, so I have not seen a TON of movies like ya'll but I have comprised a few lists of my top 10 and top 5 (I'm still working on my top 100) favorite movies of all time. I would be greatful if you could give some feedback on them. Thanks!

Comedy: 1. Duck Soup 2. Some Like It Hot 3. Singin' in the Rain 4. M.A.S.H. 5. Monty Python and the Holy Grail Musical: 1. West Side Story 2. Singin' in the Rain 3./4. The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast (I don't think I will ever be able to choose between these two!) 5. The Sound of Music 6. The Wizard of Oz 7. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs 8. Mary Poppins 9. The Phantom of the Opera 10. My Fair Lady

Martial Arts: 1. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon 2. Enter the Dragon 3. The Karate Kid 4. The Legend of Drunken Master 5. Shanghai Noon (most other ones are pretty dumb except for some exceptions. How was Iron Monkey? I didn't get to see it I heard it was kinda neat.)

Scary/Horror Films: 1. The Excorcist (the reason being because it is not a physical enemy, it is all spiritual and very real) 2. The Shining 3. The Silence of the Lambs 4. Psycho (a classic) 5. Jaws 6. A Nightmare On Elm Street 7. The Omen 8. Poltergeist 9. Carrie 10. Invasion of the Body Snatchers (another classic)

Best Movies: (Before I start, let me warn you that I am cheating because there are actually more than 10 movies here. I just can't decide between a "couple". Ha ha. That really means all of them!) The Godfather The Godfather II (this sequal is the best sequal ever and I just cannot decide between these two which is better) West Side Story Gone With the Wind Casablanca E.T. The Extraterrestrial Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Singin' in the Rain It's a Wonderful Life (watch it one year and then take a break and then watch it again the following year!) Duck Soup M.A.S.H. Ben-Hur Beauty and the Beast The Lion King (once again, I cannot choose between these two)

There you go, my 14 favorite movies in no particular order. I started doing a list with numbers, but then I found myself contradicting myself all over the place. But I promise by the time I get my 100 best movies list, there will be a countdown, a legitimate one - I PROMISE! Thank you again. Please give me some feedback, I will love you even more, I PROMISE! Peace out! Joseph Gomez

Excellent contribution Jeffery...I particulary like most of the horror films you have chosen. For being young you certainly have alot of older films on your lists (which is great). Look forward to your top 100. (AC 3/6/02)

I like you list. Its not filled with all of those cheesy classics that are on all the other lists just because there "criticaly aclaimed." There are some movies that I believe should be on your list that are not such as Saving Private Ryan(which is one of my personal favorites), E.T., Vertigo, and North By Northwest. Your web site is a very good one. Keep it up.

Thanks for the comments Jason. Loved the beginning of Saving Private Ryan, but not really the rest of the film. I agree with you on North by Northwest and E.T. .(AC 3/6/02)

I am desparate to find music that would best remind you of the Korean War. For example WWII had the Andrew Sisters, South Pacific, etc.....Vietnam had their own songs and movies to take sound from....But for some reason I haven't found what I really need to acknowledge these veterans in the proper manner they should be recognized. Can you help!

Judy...Any group that topped the billboard charts during the following dates may help (June 25, 1950 to July 27, 1953). (AC 3/6/02)

how the hell can you rate MAD MAX: Beyond the thunderdome as one of a hundred. I was roomates with Mel Gibson's son for a year and even Mel hated that movie. Shame on you for rating such movies as Cool Hand Luke or The Empire Strikes back, classics of this century, after that atrocity of a movie

Roomates of Mel Gibson's son???...Who gives a shit. If in fact what you are saying is true, I suppose I'm embarresed for Mel, because it is the Mad Max series which gave this man a career. What Women Want, Fathers Day, Maverick...now these are some horrid films. (AC 3/6/02)

Nice list. However, what about "All Quite on the Western Front". You must agree that the 1930 version revolutionized film. Staying true to the book, it represents the author's decent into madness of war. My students love this movie. Some even read the book. Strange but true. Not to mention the direction and film. There are some scenes that mesmorize you. Give it a chance. Thanks, Ed

Ed...thanks for pointing out a great film and perhaps one of the best anti-war movies of all-time. Myself, like many others, prefer the 1930 version of All Quite on the Western Front to the 1979 version. I believe this film, along with Kubrick's Paths of Glory, should be viewed in every high school history class. (AC 1/9/02)

Good taste in movies, however, all pretty heavy and serious. Need some more light hearted fun stuff like The Labyrinth and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Even some of the other Jeunet et Caro films, or Amelie. Merry Christmas.

Bubblelizzard, thanks for the feedback...I am a big fan of Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Marc Caro, but I have never been able to tolerate The Rochy Horror Picture Show. (AC 1/9/02)

On 12/17/01 Allister Mills (comableu@yahoo.com) submitted the following:

alot of your choices are accurate but i disagree with many. the empire strikes back is to far down and where are star wars and return of the jedi. where is films like americain history x, fight club, alien, aliens and alien3. where's the great escape, zulu, bridge over river kwia?, saving private ryan, ghostbusters, 12 angry men etc, etc. you missed out on so many great films and included ones like mad max, eyes wide shut, field of dreams, tombstone, americain beauty. you missed out on human traffic, truman show, planet of the apes (original), jurrasic park, the time machine, war of the worlds, goodfellas, crouching tiger.

Allister...it's safe to assume that we'll never agree on movies, although I did like Alien, Bridge Over the River Kwai, and 12 Angry Men. (AC 1/9/02)

On 12/16/01 Joe Royster (XburNINsideX@aol.com) submitted the following:

hey, i was just wondering what movies you think have particularly good sound(score, sound effects,etc.). Personally i found that Requiem For A Dream quite possibly has some of the most inventive use of a score and sound effects in any movie ever. If you haven't heard the soundtracks to both Requiem To A Dream and PI(by Clint Mansell) i suggest you buy both.

Hey Joe, Requiem For a Dream does have a unique soundtrack and it's repetition is important to the story. Some of my favorite soundtracks include: The Last Temptation of Christ, Born on The Fourth of July, Trainspotting, Dead Man Walking, and The Mission. (AC 1/9/02)

So many great movies, and for the most part, your collaboration is excellent. Props for choosing apocalypse now as #1.

Andrew..thanks for the feedback. (AC 1/9/02)

Yes, Michael Donadville is right. You both must be faggots. You didn't include Porky's IV, none of the acclaimed "Police Academy Series", "Animal House, and no 85 minute movies which have a minimum of 45 minutes worth of car chases. What's wrong with you queers?

This is funny shit...love the sarcasm. (AC 1/9/02)
