Nominal Connotation: ”Ukiya” means ‘floating arrow’. ”Shun” means ‘instant’, connoting his impromptu recklessness.
Colors: His gate color is sky blue connoting wind. This is also the color of his car, the UP-15.
Special Traits: Shun wears a tape over his nose, probably more a fashion statement than a band-aid. No one really knows why.
Wardrobe: His old school’s male uniform with the Tategami lion emblem on his collar. Outside of school, he wears a plain white shirt and jeans.
Shun Ukiya is one of two children. He was childhood neighbors and friends with Ruriko Ikusawa, the first AEGIS gatekeeper. His gate power was awakened when an invader set had a skirmish with Ruriko, Shirei and some AEGIS agents near his house. In desperation to not let the odd invaders near his house to harm his family, he opened his gate for the first time. Shirei then tried to recruit him into the Gatekeepers party, but he declined as he wanted to be there for his sister, Saemi, and not be an absentee like his late father. However, a direct encounter between his family and the invaders changed his mind. Shun joined AEGIS and became involved in the primary duties of an invader, to shield humans from invader activity and to recruit more gatekeepers. After a few more gatekeeper discoveries, it became obvious that the GKs needed battleground leadership and Shun was voted in as captain. Originally, Shun had an uncontrollably powerful gate ability and needed a gate amplifier weapon to harness it. However, he became too dependent on his sword and lost the ability to manually open the gate. All until a time when he was going to be crushed by an invader formation and he was forced to manually use his gate abilities. Soon he was able to utilize even his kendo attacks as open-hand attacks. Shun’s house is in another town from Tategami, so he lives in the lodging next to Ruriko’s house to be in close proximity to the AEGIS base.
