Nominal Conotation: In 'Ruriko', only' ko' means something-child. Ikusawa means 'raw'.

An only child and the first AEGIS gatekeeper, she was Shun’s childhood neighbor and friend. He had a great crush on him when they were children. Ruriko used to be a crybaby and a sniveler and she worked hard to be successful and independent all by herself. We first see her in the anime as she meets Shun again and defeats the invaders that are in the way of her cargo delivery. She is quite a popular girl in Tategami high, with a lot of responsibilities. While most think she is a fine girl, Shun constantly teases her as a sniveler and she is disliked by her rival, Megumi. Many times, her like for Shun seemed to surface but she constantly hid it. Ruriko awakened her gate for the first time only a few years before the anime one rainy winter’s night when she found a wounded kitten on the street. She was going to the vet but they were closed for the night and Ruriko was forced to use her gate ability to heal. She was recruited as a regular member of the AEGIS Far East Gatekeepers Party, their sole gatekeeper, handling invader threats that regular agents cannot. Soon, she also became part in recruitment of other fellow gatekeepers, beginning with Shun Ukiya. As they informally became partners, she acted quite bossy and by-the-book. Soon, she realizes that Shun’s recklessness had its own brand of reliability. Eventually, circumstances led to Ruriko and Shun’s admittance of their love for each other. Ruriko lives in her house, near the Tategami high school, home of the AEGIS Far East base.
