And this
is part of the crowd that turned up despite everything. This photo
was taken looking down the side of the Main Waitohi Road, the road on
which Pearse made his flight attempt 100 years before. The
organisers had it arranged so that the road was closed to
traffic, the grass verge on one side of the road was lined for a
100 metres or so with straw bales for people to use as seating. The grass verge
did a good job of transforming itself into a sea of mud. |
