The Story of TOMMY

The musical opens in sort of a "prolouge" scene, it shows the Walkers getting married and him going off to war and whatnot. After the overture is done, we see that Mrs. Walker has just given birth to her son, Tommy. She is told that her husband has not been found and is presumed dead. We then fast-forward four years, when the war is over and Mr. Walker (Alistair's part) is freed. He comes home to find out that his wife has another boyfriend. The two men have a fight, and in the scuffle the boyfriend is killed. Tommy witnesses this through the mirror, the main element of the show. He shuts down, becomes "deaf, dumb, and blind". So, Tommy's parents try to cure him, bringing him to many doctors. He is also harrassed by family members, such as his uncle and his cousin. Then his cousin throws him infront of the pinball machine, and miraculosly Tommy can play beyond awesome. He becomes a "sensation" and all the kids hail him for his pinball gift. In the meanwhile, his parents still want to try and get him cured. They take him to a specialist who tells them that Tommy's disabilites are all within his mind. He could physically see, hear, and talk, but his mind is forcing him not to. Then, his mother becomes so furious that Tommy only seems to be paying attention to his reflection in the mirror, that she breaks the mirror and Tommy is magically better. People all over praise him, and to make an already long story a little shorter, he invites them to his house and they try to find out what Tommy does to be so special. When he tries to tell them that all he really has is what they already have, like seeing and hearing, they all throw a fit and basically denounce him. His parents are afraid that he will go back into reclusion, but Tommy stays alert and becomes stronger.
