Treatments for Cerebral Palsy

Most treatment for Cerebral Palsy is not aimed at curing, but rather it is palliative. This means that the goal of treatment is to maintain or improve the quality of life. There are basically three types of treatment for Cerebral Palsy: surgical, drug therapy, and adjunctive therapies (such as speech pathology, PT, OT). Surgical treatment of cerebral palsy should be considered as a last resort. Not all treatments are appropriate for all types of CP, therefore, the type of CP that the treatment is used for is indicated throughout the following pages.
