Research
Previous research:
During my studies in special education and also during my work in this field I became interested in the social aspects of deafness because the education of the deaf
(segregation/integration) depends also on social attitudes towards deafness.
My B.A. thesis dealt with the attitudes of different hearing groups towards deafness and the integrated education of hearing impaired children: high school teachers and
students, parents of the students, elementary school teachers, educators and undergraduate students (majoring in special education). I developed two scales for the measurement
of the attitudes and as part of the study I evaluated these attitudes in the context of other factors and some personality traits. The results gave an image about existing
attitudes and about the present conditions for accepting the integrated education of hearing impaired children.
Future research:
At Rice University, where I will continue my studies in Fall, 2001 I will do research in the field of human-computer
interaction. My advisor, David M. Lane has a sonification project, that consists of experiments on the
methaphorical meaning of sounds, and probably I will work on that. You can read more about it on the project's website.
