Any APGP professional
genealogist, must satisfy the following conditions
- to speak and to write, at least, in two
languages (portuguese and english are necessary);
- fees must be previously established, and
submited to APGP approval;
- keep total discretion about its clients, and
in any moment, disclose their names;
- the usage of the researched information for
other commercial or unauthorized purposes is not allowed;
- comprehensive genealogy technical knowledge;
- at least, 5 years of experience;
- history and modern transcription knowledge;
- good knowledge of public resources and
genealogical works;
- good knowledge of online databases.
All these requirements are examined through and
exame provided, for free, by APGP, and, in case of approval, the
genealogist shall be considered associated of APGP and, consequently,
binded by APGP code of ethics.
Currently, APGP Code of Ethics
comprehends the following provisions:
1. Genealogy must no be considered a lucrative
business.
1.1. Genealogists must act, first of all, accordingly
their love for Genealogy Cience, and with all due respect for his client.
2. Research results are confidential.
2.1.Public disclosure of any information shall
only be allowed for cientific purposes, but, in any case, that information
shall reveal a connection to the client, of to any 2nd degree ancestor of the
client.
3. Genealogical services are not for
sale.
3.1. Genealogists shall not contact people
without previous consent, and no service promotions are allowed.
3.2. Genealogists fees must be reasonable, and
accordingly the difficulty of each research.
4. A true professional researcher also help
people for free.
5. Genealogists know that an ancestor is always
someone grandparent.
5.1. No research report may give a number to
people. Only generation numbers are allowed.
6. Professional genealogists are always
available.
6.1. His work must comprehend an answer to any
eventual queries from the client.
7. All information presented must be documented.
7.1.Any information extracted from a source,
shall make reference to the author.
8.1. Every researche must be previously
budget.
8.2. No expense shall be made without the
clients consent.
9. Final reports must be well written, and in
the clients language.
9.1. Any additional queries must be explained
without any extra costs for the client.
