APGP - Portuguese Professional Genealogy Association was created on 2001, by several professional genealogists, with the following purposes:
  • to attest and endorse the technical skills and ethical capacities of its associates through deep and comprehensive examination;
  • to protect and dignify professional genealogy;
  • to protect those who seek professional genealogy services.

Still, APGP certification degree is not yet recognized as an proficiency credential, altought the need of some kind of examination among those who offer their services in such a delicate and specific area of business such as family history research services.

As the only Association of Professional Genealogists in Portugal concerned with such questions, APGP also aims to practice disciplinary and penalizing measures upon its members.

Nevertheless, any disciplinary procedures - such as exclusion of APGP -, require previous examination based on clients complain.

We ask you, therefore, to contact us should you have any question or complain concerning a professional genealogy performing research in Portugal.
