Before Brand-X, there was...When I wanted to learn about HTML, I took a class. I learn how easy it was. Too easy, actually. Before long I started building my first homepage, just like everybody else. I found moving gifs and midis on many sites (most of them Star Trek sites) and I included nearly everyone of them on the first two pages of my website. What a disaster! Not for me. I loved all of those moving pictures and silly midis, but what I didn't know was that so few could enjoy my "monster creation." About a year ago, when I first uploaded to "my home on the web," I did not know just how slow most folks systems were. If another netizen had a slower modem than mine and/or insuffient RAM, and they tried to stop by my site, all of those ani-gifs were just bringing there computer systems to a crawl. And on the first page mind you. Without any warning, they would be hitting my "mine field" of a homepage. Well, I'm happy to say, those days are over. A good friend of mine explained that, "On the net, most folks prefer substance over style." "Believe it or not," he continued, "many have been here a long time. A lot longer than you think. And of those that will be staying after all the hub-bub dies down, they will be wanting substance over style." It didn't take me long to realise that he was right, and that my original site had little of either. There were only a few things of substance from my first attempt that I want to included in my new, improved (and greatly toned down) website. I still enjoy moving gifs, and I have used a few small ones here, but mostly I visit them on other peoples sites. BRAND-X -- Always Second BestOr why I chose to call my Homepage Brand-XFor me, Brand-X refers to the unknown and unnamed, generic Brands we always used to see on television in compition against well-known, popular brands. Perhaps you remember one of the fairly recent advertisements for paper towels. Bounty always seems to be "the quicker picker upper" vs. Brand-X. The point is Brand-X was (and always is) the Under-dog. Brand-X never
comes in first place in anything. It is always second best. but it's always
out there trying. I guess that's why I like BRAND-X. Like me, it's always
trying. :-) Hopefully, one day I'll be HTML savy enough to write my own
And it was officially last worked on...Sunday, October 26 1997Gee, I hope to have this page up and running real soon, because I just love to help. And there's much, much more to create.
