Mythology

In mythology, the sun was pulled across the sky by a 4-horse chariot. According to some, the god who pulled it (and thus the sun god) was Helios (whose name is Greek for "sun" and from whose name the word "helium" is derived); and according to others, it was Apollo. Some ancient civilizations revered the sun due to its prominent place in the sky, and some considered it to be a powerful God.
