aefvadh (a ef-vadh(a))): "be welcome"

! aefvriha : head administrator, akin to the CEO or senior manager. The prefix ne' marks the assistant head administrator.

aehallh (a-e-ha-ya): monster-ghost. An Illusory creature: similar to a "nightmare" in terran tradition, a creature that "rides" the dreamer to its perdition. Also, the "image" or illusion that one being has another; as opposed to the true nature of the being in question.

ael (a-el): proper name, fairly common on ch'Havran. "Winged." In other usage as adjective with connotations indicating a creature that moves quickly, gives one little time to make out details.

! afvillhei : the governor, either of a district if one the Homeworlds, or a planet if a colony or outstation. This rank is both military and civilian in reckoning, as all citizens must answer to them. The prefixes ne' and el' denote the assistant and senior governors, respectively.

afw'ein (af-w(a)' e- En): reason, as in use of ones' faculties, rather than as the "excuse" one contrives to explain one's behavior.

Aidoann (a- E-DO-an-n): proper name, uncommon. "Moon."

aihai (a- E-ha- E): plains, plain country, Flatlands: "prairie."

aihr (a- Ehr): "this is." Indicative noun prefix or infix.

* Arrain (ar-ra- En): a lieutenant in the armed forces. Abbr. Ar.

arrhe (ar-rhe): worth-in-cash. Originally derogatory (a servant who performed the duties of slaves below his/her rank; modified to be "a servant more worthy of a higher position than those awarded it").

Erein (er-e-eN): antecenturion/subcenturion. (translation sources vary); officer-cadet of infantry, ensign of the Fleet forces. Abbr.: Er.

galae (ga-la-e): fleet; most specifically, space fleet, since the battles of Rihannsu history were primarily land-based. However, there was a later, enthusiastic adoption of massed airpower in both the offensive and defensive modes, and it is here, rather than in the naval tradition, that the term has its origins.

hfai, hfegan (hfa-E, hfe-gan): Bond-servant, one earning a wage, but without the liberty of changing employers at will.

hlai, hlaiim (hla-E, hla-E-Em): large flightless birds farmed for their meat; similar to the terran ostrich. The very largest ones are also tamed for children to ride. This, however, renders their meat unusable.

hlai'hwy, hlai'vna (hla-E' hwy, 'vna): "held" and "loose" hlai; domesticated and wild (game) birds.

hna'h (hna'h(a)): activation-imperative suffix: e.g. "Fire!" "Energize!" "Go!"

hna'etrehh (hna' etr-eh-h(a)): engineering section of a ship

* hnaev (hna-ev): Offal, crap. Also, crassly, shit.

hnafirh (hna-fEr-h(a)): "see" but not as an active verb; passive with an implication that someone else must cooperate in the act be imparting or sharing information. Cf. hnafirh'rau ('ra ), "Let me/us see it."

hnafiv (hna-fEv): "hear," as above: hnavif'rau ('ra ), "let me/us hear it."

hnoiyika, hnoiyikar (hnO-E-yE-ka, -kar): predator, similar to the Terran weasel but about four feet long, excluding tail, and three feet tall at the shoulder. Notorious for their vicious habits and insatiable appetites. Also, an insult.

* hrini (hrE-Ne): a musical instrument, similar in sound to a harp

hrrau (hr-ra-U): at/on/in: a general locative particle or infix.

hru'hfe (hr 'hfe): Head-of-the-Household. The senior servant among the domestic staff, appointed as overseer and servants' manager.

hru'hfirh (hrU' hfE-rh): Head-of-House, euph. "The Lord." Most senior member of a noble family.

h'ta fvau (h'ta fva-U): "To last-place, immediate return!" (Come back here, now!)

hteij (hte-Ej): transporter; transmat. Not considered as a reliable form of travel, most of the time (possibly understandable, considering that the technology was bought second-hand from the Klingons).

hwaveyiir (hwa-ve-yE-Er): "command-executive center"; the flight bridge of the ship as opposed to the combat-control area. (See oira ( O-E-ra).)

* kheh (kheh): a grain used to make ale.

khellian (khe-yE-an): arch. "hunter"; also the name of a minor Praetorial house.

khoi (khO-E): "switch off," "cease," "finish."

* khoi-udt (khO-E-Udt): Drop dead / Cease to be.

* khre'Arrain (kh-re 'ar-ra-En): Lt. Commander of Fleet forces. The minimum rank to hold First Officer rank on a ship.

* khre'Enriov ('en-RE-Ov): Fleet Admiral over the Rihannsu Military/Navy. This rank answers only to the fvillhaih. Abbr.: KhEnr.

khre'Riov ('rE-Ov): commander-general; equivalent to a colonel of infantry or a commodore of Fleet forces. Abbr.: KhRi.

kllhe (ky-he): the annelid worm, introduced to domestic hlai-pens, which ingests the acidic dung and thus processes it to usable fertilizer. Also an insult.

* kllhe'mnhe (ky-he'mn-he): manure. Literally 'worm food' but has the intensity of manure.

kll'inghann (ky'Eng-han-n): the Klingon people. (However see lloan-nem'mhrahel)

! knai'ra : thank you, thanks. This is the informal version.

! kri : a building, though it could also be used to denoted the construction of a building.

* lehe'jhme (le-he'jh-me): a fruit used to make wine.

* llaudh (ya- dh(a)): a sneaky person. Although, this is not always an insult when in reference to the Rihannsu people or culture.

! lleifven : an attaché, or governmental carrier, not the case itself.

llhreu'sian (yhr-E-U'sE -an): diarrhea as a result of mild-food poisoning; a term exactly equivalent to "the runs." "the Titanian two step," "the (any number of edible object's) revenge."

llilla'hu (yE-ya'hU ): that will do, "that's just enough": barely adequate, sufficient.

lloann'm hrahel (yO-ann'mh-ra-hel): the United Federation of Planets; however, the word translates most accurately as "Them, from There" (as opposed to "Us, from Here"). The Klingons, once encountered, were promptly named khell'oann-mhehorael (khey'O-ann-mhe-hO-ra-el) {More of Them, from Somewhere Else}.

lloan'na (yO-an'na): catchall title for a UFP member, translating exactly as "a/the Fed."

lloannen'galae (yO-an-nen'ga-la-e): Federation fleet, battlegroup, task force; the word has aggressive connotations which do not differentiate between warships and unarmed civilian vessels, but then the Rihannsu have seldom seen the need to regard other ships than theirs as anything but potential enemies.

# mnahe'al (mna-he' al): anger, literally, "little (small) hate"

mnek'nra, mnekha (mnek'nra, mne-kha): "well, good, correct, satisfactory." Inferior-superior and superior-inferior modes, respectively.

mnhei'sahe (mn-he-E'sa-he): the Ruling Passion: a concept or concept-complex which rules most of Rihannsu life in terms of honor. Mnhei'sahe is primarily occupied with courtesy to the people around one: this courtesy, depending on circumstances, may require killing a person to do him honor, or severely disadvantaging oneself on his behalf. There are many ramifications too involved to go into, but generally mnhei'sahe is satisfied if all the parties to an agreement or feel that their "face" or honor is intact after a social or other transaction. NB: The concept has occasionally been mistranslated as implying that a given action is done "for another person's good." This is incorrect: such a concept literally does not exist in Rihannsu culture. One does things for one's own good -- or rather, the good of one's honor, and if properly carried out, the actions in question will have benefited the other parties in the transaction as well.

rrh-thanai (rrh-tha-naE): hostage-fostering. Sometimes the making of peace by the exchanging of children, each to be brought up in the other's tradition to further understanding and harmony; sometimes the exchange is to simply to provide leverage and a surety of good behavior: "Don't do this, or your son/daughter will die." Fosterlings often start in one context and end up in another.

! ryill (ry-E-y) - there is some doubt about what this is, but it is definitely a stringed musical instrument used to accompany voice. It is most likely analogous to either a guitar or a lute.

S'harien (s'ha-rE-en): lit. "pierceblood"; the name, in Old Vulcan, chosen by pre-sundering Vulcan's most famous swordsmith as a reaction against the teachings of Surak: the name was also given to his swords.

! theirr : a guardian, whether physical or metaphysical. One that watches over another person.

thrai, thraiin (thra-E, thra-E-En): predator, similar to the Terran wolverine; and possessed of similar legendary traits for persistence, vengeful stubbornness, and ferocity.

! tlaru : the act of spying to gather intelligence. Could also refer to the intelligence gained.

tlhei (tl-he-E): "my word"; occasionally as in "my (given) Word" but more usually "my command/order/bidding."

* T'liss (t'lEss): a bird of prey/Warbird-class starship.
