The Dancers of the Black Spiral
The Wyrm has many minions within the World of
Darkness. Among them, the Dancers of the Black Spiral are among the most
feared. Many Garou will not even mention their name for fear of calling
the Wyrm down upon themselves. The Black Spirals were not always servants
of the Wyrm. In fact, they started as Gaia's proudest tribe, the White
Howlers. In an attempt to protect their kinfolk (the Picts) from possession
by the Wyrm, the White Howlers entered into Wyrm caerns to fight the beast.
Black tentacles of the Wyrm grabbed the White Howlers and pulled them into
a dark pit. When they emerged from the pit, the White Howlers were no more.
Replaced by hiddeous beasts, corrupted by the Wyrm. Their skin and fur showed
the marks of corruption, mottled and green, glowing with the radiance of balefire.
The Black Spiral Litany:
- Serve the Wyrm in all its forms
- This is what has brought
the Black Spirals together. This common goal
keeps them focused, and has given them a basis
for alliances with the Sabbat and Pentex.
However, they will only honor these alliances
for as long as these groups serve the Wyrm and
not themselves. Disputes over what proper service
is has led to inter-Hive feuds.
- Beware the territory of another
- This is a very important
part of the litany. It gives security that no
Hives are trying to take over the territory of
another. There have not been any problems with
this yet. New Hives usually take there territory
from the Garou. Also, this is an important part
of etiquette for travelling the tunnel system of
the Pits. A Black Spiral can freely travel through
another Hive's area without fear, as long as no
harm is done to the tunnels. If harm is done, the
Hive can take full retribution.
- Give safe passage to those of other Hives
- This goes with the previous
rule and is taken seriously. A Black Spiral can
expect to be allowed to travel through another
Hive's territory without fear of harm. If harm
is done to a Black Spiral that was not deserved,
then compensation may be expected.
- Slay those who will not join you
- Because the Black Spirals
are so outnumbered, they only have two options
for their prisoners, embrace the Wyrm or die.
Often they try to impress their captives into
corruption, those who do not can expect the other
option to be more persuasive.
- Respect all who serve the Wyrm
- Even though the Black Spirals
hate all Garou and seek revenge, they will accept
members of any of the tribes who seek to join the
service of the Wyrm. This also allows for the Black
Spirals to work with the homid-operated Pentax and
the Sabbat.
- The Veil shall not be lifted
- The Black Spirals actually
understand the importance of the Veil. In fact,
it may mean more to them then the other tribes.
Maintaining the Veil allows them to hide there
Spiral nature, and thus gain surprise against the
Garou.
- Do not suffer thy people to tend
thy sickness in death
- Unlike some of the other tribes,
the Black Spirals hold this fully. If a Black Spiral
does not decide to allow her Hive-mates to rip her
appart, the Hive can make that decision for her.
- The leader may be challenged at any
time in peace
- This is a part of the Black
Spiral litany that has survived their corruption.
The holdover comes from the similarities of systems
of governance between Hive and Sept.
- The leader shall not be challenged in
time of war
- The Black Spirals have
maintained this for the same reason as the previous
rule. However, with the Black Spirals, it is not
very clear whether they are at war or not. There is
usually some sort of conflict going on. Leaders
normally may be challenged at any time they are not
preparing for battle or actually fighting.
- Ye chall take no action that causes a
Pit to be violated
- This is why they have been able
to maintain the secrecy of their tunnel system. The
Pits are the only safe spot for the Black Spirals.
Anyone intruding into a Pit is hunted until they are dead.
The Black Spirals do not even take their prisoners into
the Pits. When away from the Pits, Black Spirals will
not even say a word about them.
Black Spiral Renown:
- Power
Black Spirals respect power.
They see it as a tool, neither evil nor good. Since
power renown is based on others' perceptions of the
Spiral, it is ultimately illusory. However, a Spiral
should not expect to gain too much power without needing
to back it up. For those that can, Black Spiral society
looks highly upon those that can master power and use it
effectively in their choosen cause (namely, service to the
Wyrm).
Power Creed:
I will crush my enemies.
I shall improve myself at all expense.
I shall never refuse a challenge.
I shall use my power to the greater glory of the Wyrm.
- Cunning
A Black Spiral who masters cunning
is both respected and feared. They may not be as powerful
as others, but they use what they have effectively through
the use of deceit and trickery. Cunning represents and
understanding of both Garou and homid nature. This renown
is even applied to deceiving other Black Spirals. However,
if the one seeking renown fails, they are scorned (loss of
renown).
Creed of Cunning:
I shall hold to my word only while it is to my benefit.
I shall know my enemies.
I shall know myself.
I shall turn everything, every situation, to my advantage.
I shall never give foreknowledge of my actions.
- Infamy
Corruption and strength go together.
Corruption tests and strengthens power. Those with power
are tested by corruption and the weak fail, costing them
their power. As a Black Spiral spreads corruption, his
infamy grows.
Creed of Infamy:
I shall serve the Wyrm and aid its minions.
I shall destroy the homids.
I shall destroy the Garou.
I shall rend Gaia to make way for the Wyrm.
I shall spread corruption.
Tribal Weakness:
Derangements: The Kiss of the Wyrm
Although the Black Spirals may seem to
possess certain advantages the other Garou do not, they actually
may be the weakest Tribe in existence. They are greatly out
numbered and easy to spot. Many have become unaccustomed to the
wilderness for living in cities for so long. This is why they
use the tunnels to travel whenever possible. Above all they have
turned against their purpose to accept a new master, one who gave
them new powers but took away their sanity as payment. While not
all Black Spirals are completely insane, many do possess
derangements.
