Raina Speaker-of-Souls
Black Furies Theurge
Raina Catherine Thomas, born in Colorado, USA to Robert Gregory Thomas and Elisabetta Carla Graciano. Her parents marriage had not progressed well, and the two had been slowly heading towards a divorce when she was conceived. They had the child and stayed together, but nothing could make them like each other or stop unconsciously blaming their daughter for their unhappy lives. She did well at school academically but being small and shy did not fit in well with her more social classmates and made no friends. Her home life was uncomfortable "family time" meals and chores on her parents' small time horse breeding ranch. She suffered through school, spending more time on the ranch with the horses rather than social events with her peers, and generally avoiding contact with anyone and everyone, treating them simmering hatred. Her parents enrolled her in the complete Brownie-Girl Scout program as soon as she was old enough, which she hated more than anything except for the camping trips once each summer into the mountains. By age ten she'd been labelled anti-social and a troublemaker after being pushed into several fights by bigger opponents, and resented her status and the adults and peers judging her even more. In high school she started taking advanced courses by mail and graduated a semester early. Anything to get away from her previous life. She joined the Army and didn't like the new people any better, but she did like to fight and was good at it. Stationed in Texas she was found by a radical Black Fury tribe and given her belated Rite of Initiation. Here she found people she could like. It wasnt long before she was stealing army equipment and spending her Leave time with the Furies. It was far more fun to use her demolitions skills on Bane havens, and it was very satisfying to blow things sky high. She left the Army within the year when her enlistment was up and started taking martial arts courses and living with the Furies full time. Pack turnover was high and she only survived her first months because her theurge status and demolitions skills kept her out of the worst fighting. The Pack was engaged in a hot war with a local Pentex branch operating under another name, and after 14 months of lead up attacks and information gathering the Furys launched an all out offensive strike on the local company headquarters. The fighting was a massacre on both sides, and Raina has scars to show for it. Five Furies crawled or staggered out of the wreckage and fires, two too crippled to ever fight again. Unable to continue the furious way they had before, Raina soon regained her equilibrium. She continued her martial arts training and developed better control of herself, and spent less time with her sisters and more fighting on her own now that she had the experience to do so. And there was ALWAYS something to fight, whether a Bane infestation on the Umbra, Sabbat hunting parties or hunters with silver bullets. She ran across another Fury, a Moon-Dancer, and joined her pack for a time, still seeing her old comrades on a regular basis to exchange stories and relive old times, but the fire had gone out of them after the beating they had taken. She'd begun to notice that for all the sacrifices and Rage of her sisters, and their victory, the Garou were losing the overall fight against the Wyrm. She thought about the problem for several months and kept coming back to humanity as the problem. Killing them all was out of the question, and from studying the other supernatural creatures around [know your enemy] she'd heard of the Mage belief in mass consciousness. So she started trying to affect that consciousness. Today Raina is a successful writer of adventure thriller novels, written with subtle themes that she hopes will stick in the minds of people and cause them to change their ways even a little. She has joined a new Sept and attained an unlooked for position within it, and even found Garou she can feel almost comfortable with, male though they are. Most disturbing to her is her first actual contact with the Camarilla of the nearby city. Believing that the garou have to tolerate the lesser evils to concentrate on the greater evils, she's found herself working with and almost liking some of the leeches there. Likes them more than some Garou and that distresses her, particularly when some leeches seem to be helping Gaia's cause more than those Garou who only seek mindless Glory. Her old tribe, now having rebuilt its numbers, has been recovering their fire as well and their monthly Moots have begun to show signs of looking for a new target for their aggression, and would not look favorably on her new opinions or see the difference in liking the leech in question, but hating what he is.
