Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Goodbye Iowa

Maggie Walsh is dead and her creation is free to roam. As Buffy tries to work out exactly what is going on and who she can trust, Riley experiences strange feverish symptoms...

After last week's story, it seems the overall arc to the season has reached something of a pause, with this episode playing out a few of the more minor and less interesting concepts that have been carefully set up and placed throughout the year. There's much discussion of the 'Initiative: good or bad?' variety, but ultimately it all goes nowhere as without Maggie, the centre is a rather faceless organization and no-one else seems to know much about what is going on.

As has been a problem for much of this year, there's too much talking and running on the spot and not enough action. A season arc is a great idea as long as it doesn't interfere with playing out some great stories. There isn't really anything much going on here. That's not to say there's nothing to enjoy here; it is Buffy after all, but it's just not enough.
