Earth: Final Conflict: Scorched Earth

It looks as though the SI War will reignite when a long-disused weapon makes a return, causing swathes of destruction.

From the perspective of new information and some background to the series, this episode is pretty good. We find out what the SI War was (The Sino-Indian War, to be precise), we discover that the Taelons have been on Earth longer than they've admitted to and have been interfering for the duration of their time on the planet. We discover a bit about Renee's past as well.

However, it's nowehere near enough. All these revelations aren't backed up with anything other than a poor plot. There are very few guest stars for a start, which makes it easy to work out who is behind the return of the aforementioned deadly weapon. His closeness to Renee would be an interesting aspect to play on were it not for the fact that Renee doesn't appear to care in the slightest what happens to the guy. Despite her efforts to save him in the end, she shows no real emotion at all the rest of the time. It may be Jayne Heitmeyer trying to remain stoic and unaffected but with inner turmoil, but we need some hints if we're watching.

The Taelon meddling is worthy of further exploration, as who knows how long they've been messing with human affairs? Whether this aspect will become important later is unknown, but it's certainly worth going back to.

What the episode needs is more focus. We see a brief skirmish in the war at the start to explain other events of the story, but we need to see familiar faces fighting in the war: the real Liam Kincaid, Boone, anyone we would recognize would be a start. None of the main characters seem to have much invested in anything going on and it makes it dull to watch. Predictable, pedestrian, but containing some worthwhile ideas so not a dead loss.
