Liam and Renee become trapped inside Ma'el's ship with a reanimated Roman as Zo'or challenges Ta'thon to a duel only one of them will survive.
I'll need to check my Taelon history, but I was of the opinion that Ma'el had lived on Earth a long time ago, but had still lived beyond the very start of this century. This episode seems to suggest he died while the Roman Empire was still a going concern, which seems unlikely. Either that or the writing needs to be clearer.
There was surely plenty more that could have been done with Ma'el's ship after this episode, but its destruction not only signals the end of the Resistance's chances to learn important information about the Taelons but also a plotline that needed much more exploration. It's rather disappointing and also a shame that it isn't tied in to the recent books of the series.
Meanwhile, the confrontation between Zo'or and Ta'thon isn't as exciting a fight as it should have been, Sandoval either has the ability to read minds now or has a special implant, and the fight is stopped early, meaning this plotline, which should have been closed up by now, is still dangling. Not that I don't like the power play going on, but it would have been more interesting between Da'an and Zo'or, although that would obviously result in one of the character's deaths. A more face to face confrontation would have been better as well, rather than playing a game to decide one's fate. Lastly, how come no-one spots Liam and Renee on an escape pod and asks how they got in it?
