The death of a young woman brings Liam to the quiet town of Taelonville, which hides an unpleasant secret that has links with Da'an.
Leni Parker is really getting a workout this season, taking on Da'an's more mysterious side to perfection as she plays against the other characters. Once again in this episode, her sparring with Robert Leeshock is exhilarating to watch, especially when Da'an informs Liam that there is a limit to his patience.
Also making some decisions is Sandoval, and Von Flores plays him as an enigma of a man, leaving the viewer unsure whether his attempts to ally himself to Da'an are for his own ends, because he's seen that Da'an may yet take Zo'or's power, or to prove himself as Zo'or starts to distrust him, wondering when he became Sandoval's assistant.
Liam and Renee act much more like a team when visiting Taelonville, making use of the strong rapport between them. But it is the revelation of Da'an's experiment to breed a human/Taelon hybrid that hits hardest. We've seen efforts to create clones before, but stealing children and altering them on the genetic level is particularly frightening. After last episode, Da'an seems to be more determined to continue whatever plans his race have for Earth and the humans on it, taking advice from Sandoval on the best time to tell Zo'or what he knows. Who is playing who now is becoming more and more of a mystery and characters with uncertain motivations are always far more interesting to watch.
It's not so much the storyline itself that makes this a good episode; the Taelonville stuff is pretty straightforward and dull. It's the characters and their motivations that really makes this stand out.
