LEXX: K-Town

Xev and Stan enter K-Town, a place full of lunatics who went to pelt them with rocks. Then they come across a familiar face: Mantrid.

This season of LEXX has trodden a fine line between being intriguing and being boring and has just about come down on the side of the former, until now. There really is nothing to this episode, and although it may yet serve some vital function in the grand scheme of things, it's just annoying here.

Xev and Stan spend a while climbing up a wall, then spend too long engaging in a meaningless discussion with the inhabitants of K-Town, then spend most of the rest of their time getting pelted with rocks that the locals are chucking at them. It doesn't really make for high quality drama, and even the arrival of Mantrid (or someone who looks very much like him) doesn't add anything, as he has no idea who or what he is. All he knows is what Stan and Xev tell him, and this seems rather stupid considering he may rediscover that he's a murdering lunatic and kill them.

Kai's arrival leads to a bit of interest as we discover that he's not as indestructible as he appears and needs fixing. Getting a glimpse at his insides is worth waiting for as we see the extent of what was done to him all those millennia ago. The scene of him being fixed, however, also takes too long, and with no other plotlines going on, there's nowhere else to go. Kai's method for mending himself is a suitably daft yet simple one, but it's only at the very end that things look like they're going somewhere when a balloon picks up Kai and Prince returns. But who's in the body now? The only other thing worthy of note is that 'Mantrid' likewise awoke to his new life and there are further hints about the planet's mysterious reincarnation. However, by the end, we still don't know why Mantrid is present or exactly what kind of place K-Town is. The questions are mounting up and it's time we had some answers.
