Highlander: The Raven: 'The French Connection (2 of 2)'

Nick is helped in his pursuit of Andre Korda by Bert Myers, just as Amanda arrives to find out what has happened to Nick. Reunited, the pair take on Korda one last time.

As was the case with Highlander: The Series due to it being a co-production, it's time to shift the action to Paris for the second half of the season, forcing a reasonable if slightly suspect bit of plotting to transfer Amanda and Nick there. And for some reason, it's a much better show. Maybe it's the actors having had half a season to get into their characters, or the fresh outside air in Paris, but this is a much faster-paced episode and is all the better for it.

Admittedly there are still some things left unexplained (such as Korda's associates robbing a truck; presumably they wanted some money or a machine or something from it), but this is a good follow-up to last episode. There are chases, fights with fists and with swords, the revealing of a cunning plot to forge banknotes and more almost-romance between Amanda and Nick who should just get it out of the way and get together now. Shockingly, even Bert Myers has become more likeable. However, after all of the build-up to Amanda's fight with Korda, she is able to take her of the man who taught her so many fighting techniques with relative ease. Was he just not trying?

Apart from this, if there's any problem with The French Connection, it's that the story is hardly full of original ideas, but it does come together well and is done in such a well put-together way that it doesn't matter. Even the Darius-substitute priest is a fresh new character who sits well in the French format and setting. Let's see if the production team can keep up the good work.
