Highlander: The Raven: 'Love and Death'

Bert Myers assigns Nick and Amanda to a case that brings them up against Derek Markham, a man with a very close personal connection to Amanda.

There are several different strands to this story which makes it flow together better than many others in the series. Markham is a tricky enemy, highly intelligent and extremely good at swordplay, so good that Amanda is running scared, knowing he could easily beat her. Admittedly this is the kind of thing we've seen before with Duncan MacLeod, but we need to get deeper into Amanda's character to make her more likeable to the viewer.

It's also crunch time for Myers when he sees someone shot in the heart return to life, leap into a car and disappear into the distance. Eventually Amanda realizes she'll have to tell him the truth, with Nick looking on in horror, but Myers thinks it's just one of Amanda's better lies, failing to appreciate that her explanation is, oddly, the one that makes the most sense.

Despite The Raven suddenly becoming Immortal-tastic, this episode is a cut above the rest with some good performances, some interesting soul searching, and the worst English accent ever attempted on television, complete with the word 'mum' every sentence. Does anyone seriously think the British talk like this outside Dickens novels? Hilarious.
