title>My 2 Cents Worth – Star Trek: Voyager
Star Trek: Voyager: 'Drone'

A transporter accident fuses the Doctor's portable emitter with some of Seven's nanoprobes, and soon the couple are the proud parents of a bouncing 29th century Borg baby...

The premise of this story is fine: nanoprobes plus emitter equals Borg child. However, every thing beyond that is more or less a retread of Star Trek: The Next Generation's I, Borg. From the moment they discover that there is a Borg infant gestating on Voyager, Janeway's decision-making process goes totally out of the window. The cyborgs have already tried to assimilate the ship, and having Seven on board makes Voyager even more of a target without having baby Borg on board too. But Janeway decides that she can make friends with the creature, despite Seven telling her that the new arrival will sooner or later want to contact the Collective.

Despite discovering his origins, the new Borg (a 29th century Borg, as he exists thanks to the Doctor's advanced emitter technology) decides he likes his new chums, and decides to call himself 'One'. Apart from the hideous cuteness factor, you would expect a more advanced Borg to be even more keen to assimilate things, which One isn't. Which is a shame, because the story would have been much better if it had been about the crew trying to stop an advanced Borg taking over the ship.

You know from the outset that the Borg has to die, or the Doctor won't be mobile any more, but getting there is so sickly and tedious that you really don't care for One at all. And how many more times will Janeway risk her ship against the Borg, a foe that have proven themselves far superior to us countless times? Does she want to get home or not?
