Jake and Sue Jacobson's 2001 Christmas Letter

Happy Holidays from the Jacobsons!!!

As the life changing events of 2001 unfolded over our nation, life changing events occurred in the Jacobson family as well.  In summary … Engagement, Baseball Draft, Graduation, Engagement, WEDDING!!  And that was only in the immediate family!  Shall I explain?

In January, the Spring semester saw Billy transfer to Rice University to complete his collegiate baseball eligibility and the requirements for a degree from Stanford.  Although he started a little slowly in baseball, he wound up having a great year.  He was able to contribute in some especially exciting NCAA Regional games and, best of all, Mom and Dad were able to be there for every home inning and a few away as well!

June 1, 2001 arrived and things started moving at a breathtaking pace!  Jake and I received a call from Missy telling us that Peter Watts had proposed to her!  Many discussions later, the date of December 15th in San Antonio was selected.  Along with my sister and trusted technical adviser, Mickey, and my friend and wedding coordinator, Lynn Reese, I spent many a weekend driving on I-10 between Houston and San Antonio!!

Also in June on the day of the baseball Amateur Draft while I was busily trying to secure a site via telephone for Missy’s reception, Aunt Mickey called to say that a “William Jacobson” had been drafted by the Houston Astros!  Billy signed a contract immediately (for what one person described as a “multi-hundred dollar” bonus).  Somehow his new employer really didn’t care that he was graduating and he was told to report to the Astros farm team in Martinsville Va. two days before his Stanford graduation ceremony!  So he was off to Virginia to pursue his life long dream!!

As October rolled around, the wedding plans were proceeding well.  But on October 13th, my father suffered multiple strokes and passed away peacefully on the 19th.  He led a wonderful and full life.  Most importantly, he no longer suffers from Alzheimer’s Disease!!

Come November 20th, Jake and I received a call at 1:30am from Billy announcing that he had proposed to his long-time best friend, Karen Reese!  Thanksgiving was a little hectic as we celebrated the new engagement and had a shower for soon-to-be-weds.

And then December 15th--Missy and Peter’s wedding day--arrived.  It was a wondrous occasion that left me almost speechless.  I can hardly remember any of it!  (What else is new for me?)  However, the pictures have started pouring in and can be seen on our family website at www.oocities.org/hljscjibmnet/.

Oh, yeah, Jake and I are doing well and wish you all peace of mind and strength of spirit this holiday season and throughout the coming year.

Jake and Sue
