NEW CONCEPT FOR EXHIBITIONS. ARTPOINTS FOR ALL.
As we all know, the mountain must come to the prophet, if  the prophet doesn't come to the mountain. To reckognize this has been the starting point for a new exhibition concept on the Costa Blanca. Is was thought for people that seldom or never visit an Art gallery, and for artists, that often get no place in the known galleries, because there, most of the time commercial selection criterion decide. Since August 2001 exists the spanish Art Foundation Art Points, with whom's help the artworks of international contemporary artists are made available to a wide public. The spiritual father and curator who decides of the choice of the participating artists, is the belgian painter, sculptor and architect Jan Gielens, who works under the artistic name of Aguila. The contact with the artists is done by the president of the foundation, Josee Biesemans, also from Belgium, and for the organisation is responsible Kai Engels, an art-loving young dutch lady. This day, there are exhibitions on 15 "Points", that are changed every 8 to 10 weeks..
Artroute along the Costa Blanca.
This "Artroute" goes from Elche to Pedreguer. The exhibition places are hairdressers, Design shops, Cafes, hotels and restaurants, amongst others the Cafe El Racó in Altea, the restaurant Taberna Antigua in Pedreguer or the hairdresser Vicente Millá in Alicante. The amount of artpoints grows steadily, as many business owners admit their interest in this form of art propaganda and are willing to let their rooms. For the future, more art proyects are planned, as for example the organization of an art fair and multi media events out of the artpoints. met him at the coffee after a dinner in restaurant Los zapatos of Egon Abb. Born in Israel as the son of German parents, he started in his earliest youth with the oil painting of landscapes. In 1999 he discovered through his profession as a graphic designer the digital art and since then he creates fantastic images of landscapes, people music and dance. The concept created by him is printed on canvas, which is why many believe the works to be painted on canvas, being in fact printed on canvas. How this works, techincally, he does not wish to tell us but the results speak for themselves: 12 works are exhibited in the Restaurant Los Zapatos from 26 april onwards with occasion of the celebration of their 16 anniversary.
The artist we are here speaking of is Ben Rotman and he is the founder of a well known advertizing company and winner of many awards in design and graphics. He is always on the way between Germany and Israel.
And how would he get to the Costa Blanca and to Calpe?
Through the Foundation "Art-Points", who's artistic leader is Jan Gielens, also known as Aguila. He is assited by Kai Engels, a dutch lady, who is responsible for the organisation of the Foundation. Both are continuously seeking "places for the art" with the aim to bring the art nearer to the people, and this without any commercial interest, which does however not exclude sales of the artworks. The artist will return to Calpe on the 26 april and be present on the gala-dinner, to which also the Latin-American Jazz singer Kersti

                                          Ben Rotman is a painter, but not one in the conventional sense. Since he abandoned the
                                          classical (oil and acquarell) painting some years ago, the computer mouse has become his brush
                                          and the colour menu his palette. 12 of his digitally made artworks  will be exhibited during three
                                          months in the Restaurant "Los Zapatos" in Calpe. They give an insight in the work of the painter,
                                          born in 1948 in Tel Aviv.
                                          The colourful works,  dominated by reds and yellows, give riddles to the spectator. In their mixture
                                          of concrete and abstract, they seem to have depth. Similar to oil paintings, also here the works
                                          can only be enclosed at sufficient distance. The expectance to be able to see some tiny points
                                          when getting nearer, is however not fulfilled. The view rather looses itself in the layers of colour
                                          that mix together on a surprisingly very smooth surface. How Rotman reaches the illusion of three
                                          dimensionality, he does not tell us. The software designed by himself, with which the artwork that
                                          has been created on the screen can be printed on canvas, is his secret.
                                          But he does have an opinion about the special challenge of computer art: When making the work,
                                          one always sees only a part. The drawing with the mouse requires much more imagination as the
                                          classical form of painting. With his artworks, he wants to free the art from a vacuum in which it
                                          stays since cubism.
                                          The most important task of art is however to act as memory of history.
                                          That is why also historical happenings as 11 september or Hiroshima are part of Rotman’s subjects.
                                          He also plans the artistic reproduction of the wall of the wall of Berlin or the Iraq war. Other
                                          motives are the naked female body and hands, both full of secrets for the artist. Landscapes and
                                          rhythms translated to images complete Rotman’s oeuvre.

EXHIBITION.The Italian artist Ivano Castaldo exhibits in the cybercafe Aldea Digital (avenida Juan Carlos I) a selection of his latest works. Castaldo studied classical music in Italy, but he didn't get involved with modern art until his stay in Holland. The artist makes modern paintings, sculptures and other forms of art, often using found materials or rubble. The exhibition is organized by Artpoints, an initiative of the association Ciudad del Hombre to present the artworks of international artists.

The cybercafe Aldea Digital - on the Avenida Juan Carlos I- receivees these days an exhibition of the italian artist Ivano Castaldo. It concerns a artist with a long trayectory, who studied classical music at the Conservatory of Avellino (Italy) and Jazz in that of Arnhem. In Holland, inspired by the way of living, he turns towards another of his passions: modern art.
From there on, Ivano Castaldo makes paintings, sculptures and other forms of art, often using materials that he found in nature and rubble. After a period of ten years in Holland, Castaldo returns to Italy in 2002, participating in individual exhibitions as well as in group exhibitions, in his country as well as abroad. Harry van Gestel, director and artist of the Art gallery Gaia in Amsterdam, says about him that he is a "contemporanean artist with much talent" and emphasizes his "exceptional whish to explore and renew, always searching for confrontation and freedom of expression".
The cultural association ARTPOINTS was founded in 1972 and its activity consists in organizing exhibtions of the artworks of international artists in public places (points of art) along a route that goes from Cartagena to Valencia. The artists and spaces are selected by the curator, the artist Águila.
