I adminster the California Achievement Test once a year to my children. I order it from Thurber's Educational Assessments, included on my homeschool venders page, but there are other places to order them.
Being a one income family means we are careful with our money. This does not mean I will sacrifice the quality of education my children receive, but I will use my money wisely. One way I save money is trying to buy my curriculum used either through email lists or message boards. I have some links under Used Curriculum below. One tip I have
for new homeschoolers anywhere is to ask for teacher's discounts
at some of the bookstores or stores like The Nature Company,
Office Max, Borders Books, etc. A lot of times they will give homeschool
teachers discounts. Also on my Helps for Homeschoolers page are links for free worksheets and other online activities that are free.
A concern of mine has been recording keeping. Our school name is Solid Rock Christian High School. I use the textbook/workbook approach. I make up our school schedule over the summer break. I have been using a software program from DataPlus Soloutions called Homeschool Easy Records this year. It is easy to use, but time consuming to enter all the lessons and information needed. I want my sons to have a professional looking transcript for high school. This program offers a transcript, report card, book list, etc. I have been happy with it so far.
