Hawaii Photos

Sorry, this page is slow to load.

Hanama Bay - A volcanic crater that opened to the sea formed this bay. Colorful sea life makes this a popular site for snorkeling. The fish swim all around you and are used to people feeding them.

Three Tables - Named three tables for the three table-like rock formations. This is our favorite place to swim in the summer. During the winter the waves are too high for us to go here. As you can see in the following photo, it is not safe for swimming. Here in Hawaii, the North Shore has large waves in the winter. One day last year, 1998, the waves were forty feet.

Three tables -This day the waves were up to 25 feet. On the day this photo was taken, there was a surfing contest held named for Eddie Aikau at Waimea Bay just down the road. The waves have to at least be 20 feet high and by any other place's measurement these waves are 30 feet. The winning contestant takes home $50,000. I think they are either extremely brave or crazy for going out in that surf. A jet ski pulls the surfer out to the waves and then the surfer rides it back to the shore, hopefully.

Toilet bowl - Right around the corner from Hanama Bay. So named for the effect you will see in the photo below. Looks like fun, but I wouldn't get in the water there that day.

Toilet bowl - Opps, where did they go. LOL This is located near Hanama Bay.
