Mary was born on Dec. 8, 1754 and died in Acton on Feb. 10, 1805. She married Ephraim Forbush in 1784 .

Her father was Samuel Buttrick (sometimes spelled Butterick). Samuel was born in Concord, MA on November 16, 1718 and died in Concord on Jan 14, 1814. On Sept 18, 1744 he married Lucy Wheeler in Concord. Lucy Wheeler was born May 3, 1723 and died in 1803. Samuel was a private in the Revolution. They had 10 children (all in Concord), Mary was number 5.

One of Samuel's brothers, John Buttrick, is relatively famous. He was a major during the beginning of the Revolutionary War. He was in command of the American militia (the Minute Men) the North Bridge in Concord on April 19, 1775. "After having crossed the North Bridge at Concord retiring before the British with neither side firing on that eventful day, the colonists took their stand under command of Major JohnButtrick. Thr British fired, killing Capt. Isaac Davis of Actonwhereupon Major Buttrick yelled "Fire, fellow soldiers, for God's sake, fire!", himself firing immediately. After an exchange of fire and casualties on both sides, the British drew back, then began their long retreat to Cambridge. This marked the first defeat of the British by the colonists and John Buttrick is credited with issuing the first everorder for the colonists to fire on the British." His gun was on exhibition with a collection of memorabilia at the centennialcelebration in Concord on April 19, 1875, for which Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote the famous oft-repeated lines: 'here once the embattled farmers stood and fired the shot heard round the world'. John is credited with firing that shot. His home is now part of Minute Man National Park at Concord.
