Problems and Solutions

We all spend time in the kitchen, even if just for a cup of coffee or hot cocoa. What distractions can we find there?

Problem Solution
Kitchen
1. Can openers
Backwards; extremely hard/impossible to use
Items 1-5 have left-handed versions available, although lefties must usually seek them out from left-hand specialty shops. Items such as the ladle or measuring cup could be made for use by either side, and there are neutral ice cream scoops.
2. Corkscrews - ditto
3. Soup ladles
The pouring side is opposite for a lefty.
4. Measuring cup (clear kind)
The measuring scale is on the opposite side when you hold it with your left hand.
5. Ice cream scoop
This would be the type with the "thumb" mechanism, which is wrong for left-hand use.

6. Carving knives
Would you believe that the edge is often sharpened for righty cutting?
The knife problem is not on all knives; when it is, the knife is beveled to one side only. This results in a bad carving experience for a lefty user.
7. Coffee mugs
Not a big deal, but using them with the left hand means we can't look at any pictures decorating them (which is probably why we picked them out).
Left-handed mugs are available, but usually with "Lefty" slogans on them. Better to suffer and let others view your good taste in mugs. Or you could find mugs with designs that go all the way around, or on both sides.
8. Eating
Lefties knock elbows when sitting with a righty to their left.
As for eating, we just need to make sure we are in the first seat on the left of any side of a table. Alternately, right-handers are also capable of tucking their elbows in!

We'll now move on to the work world, whether office or factory.
