TYPES OF MEMBERSHIP... Members who serve in a leadership capacity on the NECA Executive Board must also be a member of the American Counseling Association. The NECA Executive Board encourages dual membership because our numbers within the American Counseling Association determine the strength of our Division.
  • Professional (voting): Open to individuals who have a master's degree in counseling or a closely related field from a college or university that was accredited when the degree was awarded.
  • Regular (voting): Open to individuals whose interests and activities are consistent with those of NECA, but who are not qualified for Professional Membership.
  • New Professional (voting): Status is applicable only to individuals who have graduated from school during the past 12 months. Status is good for one year.
  • Student (voting): Open to individuals currently enrolled half-time or more in a graduate education program or an approved Certified Career Development Facilitator Program.
  • Retired (voting): Open to individuals who are retired from employment and have been NECA members for at least the past five years.

    We contract with the American Counseling Association (ACA) for all management services, which includes processing of membership applications. The link below will take you to the appropriate ACA webpage.

    Any Individual interested in supporting the effort of helping people enter, understand and progress within the world of work is invited to join NECA. For people who are already members of ACA, the Professional or Regular Membership is $50.00 a year. Student or Retired Membership is $24.00 a year. If you are not an ACA member, add $10.00 for membership processing. You can also join NECA & ACA at the same membership website link.

  • Legislative Advocacy: Work with Congress, federal departments and ACA's Public Policy and Legislative Staff on pending legislation to support inclusion of employment counseling service delivery systems. We will assist members on state and local workforce development policy development upon request.

  • Global Presence: Member of the International Association of Employment and Vocational Guidance (IAEVG); NECA members serve as consultants in other countries ranging from Poland to Pakistan to Australia
  • Professional Associations Network: NECA works with other associations relating to our work. Examples include: National Association of Workforce Professionals (NAWDP), the National Association of Workforce Boards (NAWB), the National Career Development Association (NCDA), and others
