Mr. Weingarten has been teaching at Monte Vista since 1995. What does he like about Monte Vista? The tremendous staff, administration, parents and students! He received his undergraduate degree in Social Studies at UC Berkeley and his masters degree in Education at UCLA. During the 1996-97 school year he married Nikki and his class wrote and illustrated a wedding book for them. His favorite food is a root beer float and his favorite movie is any one of the James Bond films.
Mr. Weingarten loves to coach baseball, and has been a fan of the Dodgers all his life. He remembers fondly playing basball in the street as a kid. He went to Tahiti on his honeymoon and thought it was beautiful. He hopes to travel again to Australia where the people are friendly. Mr. Weingarten decided to become a teacher because he loves helping children learn! He feels his family was special because they taught him the importance of a good education. A funny memory from his years of teaching is when a student thought everything was black and white before color TV!
His favorite children's book is Oh! The Places You'll Go by Dr. Seuss and he recommends any Chris Van Allsburg book. His dream for the future is for his children: that they go to college and have a career they love.
Mr. Weingarten's Homework Tip: Have a snack and do your homework first thing when you get home, then the rest of the night is stress free!

Participation in this national reading incentive program is a requirement in Mr. Weingarten's class. Books that are read for book reports and Caldecott Club may be counted for BOOK IT!®. Just be sure to do a verification slip for each book! Parents must sign each verification slip. Students are required to read at least 100 pages per month for the months of October, November, December, January, and February. If a student reads more than 100 pages in a month, the extra pages count as extra credit toward language arts.
When the reading goal is met, the teacher gives the student a Pizza Award Certificate, which can be redeemed at any participating Pizza Hut restaurant for a free personal pan pizza. If all the students meet their reading goals, the entire class earns a free pizza party.
