Dear Class of 1998-99,
Hello. I had a great time in 4th grade and so will you. (I hope so.) If you want to become a good student in Mrs. Young's room, here's what you have to do. 1. Get all the supplies you need, (like crayons, markers, etc.), 2. Be quiet when she says so because she means it. 3. Bring a lot, I mean, a lot of cans. If you do just that you'll be perfectly fine. There are fun parts, too. You should be proud of yourselves, you are in a class that goes on millions of filed trips and also takes a lot of test. Mrs. Young is a great teacher, I loved her. She's the best teacher iI ever had. Hope you have a good time.
Mrs. Young's 1997-98 student, Euree P.
Dear Class of 1998-99,
To be in Mrs. Young's, wait...I mean to survive in Mrs. Young's class, you must learn these steps I give you if you value your life! 1. Keep your eyes open. 2. Keep your mouth shut! 3. Never, never, never get late work. 4. Jam pack weekends doing extra credit work 5. Always pay attention. 6. When you have spare time in class, study or do extra credit. Those rules are vital to your life. But there is a good side to all of this and that's what I'm going to tell you. You get to go on a bunch of field trips. Some other fun things are tutees, roots reports, book report, beware of the mission report, penpals, art docent, writing to the third grade (in June), going to Claim Jumpers to eat, and at the end of the year you go to Universal Studios, so fourth grade really isn't bad.
Sincerely, Ben F.
Dear Class of 1998-99,
You know, in Mrs. Young's room some things are hard, and some things are fun. You also can get in trouble if you don't listen! Some tips that won't get you in trouble is bring in work on time, be quiet when she tells you, and don't talk too much. Some fun things are going to Lazy W Ranch, where you make tortillas, grind corn, and play games. Another fun thing is you get to go to Cabrillo Marine Museum where you get to go to tidepools and touch sea animals. Some hard things are if you don't study for a test, you could get a bad grade, but if you study hard, you get what you wanted!
A student in 97-98, Gloria S.
Dear Class of 1998-99,
You are very lucky to have Mrs. Young as your teacher. I am a bookworm and love all of the books here. Beware! There will be no-no notes. Those are notes that you get tor talking and late work. However, at the end of each month, you will get a yes-yes note if you had no no-no notes. You also get a Monty Star. If you only had 1, you will get a Monty Star. You will look forward to all of the field trips. One, I especially like is Lazy W Ranch. You get to pan for gold, shop for real food, hike, build a shelter, and make sand paintings. Another one you will love is...Universal Studios! You will go on a bus and get to ride rides! (You don't have, too.) You have to do one book report a month! Maybe more! You will have penpals and then meet them on a picnic. You will have to do lots of extra credit. You will also have to do science experiments .
Former fourth grader, Liz E.
Dear Class of 1998-99,
Fourth grade is fun. It is the first time to try many things. You're getting penpals. I liked my penpal. I hope you like yours. Barter Day is fun. We could bring anthing we want and trade for good things. Do you like being a tutee? Now you're a tutor. Isn't that cool? You'll go on the best field trips. One good one is the Lazy W Ranch. You make a shelter out of sticks and you make tortillas out of corn that you smash with rocks. The you pan for gold. You get to meet your penpals, too.
Be a good student and file. For tests, study, do, and check. File your work before Mrs. Young blows up. You're luck to be here because her room is first in recycling. Recycle a lot. Listen. Underline book titles. Think this piece of advice won't help? Think again.
Sincerely, Esther C.
Dear Class of 1998-99,
It is important to have work done in Mrs. Young's room. If you don't turn in your work on time you get a no-no note and your parents have to sign it, which is worse. Mrs. Young gives a lot of work. We also have a few reports to do in our class. For book reports you have to be prepared. We take a test about the California map, and we get to make the model of the map out of dough and paint. We have monthly field trips. There's Cabrillo Marine Museum, we go to the shore and touch and identify tide pool fish and creatures. You'll learn multiplication, division, and fractions. Instead of 123's you get ABC's on your report card and that's a sneak-peek for this class.
Sincerely Abe C.
Dear Class of 1998-99,
If you like art, you got the right teacher. Though Mrs. Young is nice, loyal, cheerful and fair, she is strict about work. Dive into the work. Enjoy it. Don't let it go in the way of your happiness. Enjoy your time. Do all of your work. She's funny and loves to tease. She's fun, she's great! You're very lucky to have her. In fourth grade, you can look forward to having tutees and penpals. You'll have a lot of fun making tutee projects and writing pen pal letters. You will probably go on great field trips like the Lazy W Ranch, where you pretend you are in the Califonia's History Book. Well, have fun and enjoy!
Yours truly, Sarah L.
Dear Class of 1998-99,
I'm obviously a student of Mrs. Young's. I'm writing this to warn you and tell you things to look forward to. Beware of the Mission reports! Get them done before Christmas vacation! It will ruin your Christmas! Tust me, I would know.
Well, you can look forward to the Universal Studios field trip. Mrs. Young's class is a great class. We have a garden with poppies and other flowers. We also have these neat things called 5 minute quizzes where you take small math quizzes. If you pass all ten, you get to eat pizza with your friends. There's also this really neat thing, when you trade toys or something with your friends, which is called barter day. This is also the year when you can join orchestra. You also learn many, many, many new things!
Sincerely, Travis M.
Dear Class of 1998-99,
I have to say you're in for a treat. Though she may be strict, here are some things to look forward to. All the field trips, Lazy W Ranch, penpals, tutees, movies, Universal Studios, math masters, and five minute quizzes. Be sure to say hi to Mogul (Mrs. Young's huge white stuffed bear). Some things you should know to have to be a good student, file, study, when she says quiet, she means it. Be prepared to have a pop quiz at any time, and don't cram. Always, always, study math masters. It may be hard at the beginning but it gets easier. But most of all have fun!
Have a great time, James F.
Dear Class of 1998-99,
Some things you should look forward to is acrostic, which is where you write your name down and then you write stuff about you that starts with each letter. Another thing you will need to look forward to is tons of field trips and 5 minute quizzes. If you recycle and bring in 100 cans, then you get an awesome treat bag. So bring in those cans! One of my favorite things in 4th grade were friendship books. Another thing you will love is Poetry, Gradening, and being a winner. For those of you book worms out there, here's a thing you will love. Book-it! And those of you art worms out there, here's a thing you will love, art docent. And those of you computer worms you will have lots of fun on Mrs. Young's computers. If you like music then you can join orchestra. If you like math or science or puzzles or penpals, certificates or even homework, then you will have lots of those in Mrs. Young's room. So join the fun and be a winner! Here are some tips about what to do and not to do in Mrs. Young's room. DON"T talk when Mrs. Young says don't talk, and when called on DO talk loud and clear, and DO file!
Sincerely, Becky W.
Dear Class of 1998-99,
Hello, I am Karleen W. in Mrs. Young's fourth grade class. Everybody thinks Mrs. Young is a really hard teacher, and she is, but here are some hints to help you make fourth grade a little easier. The most important one of all is you have to file! In fourth grade you have to have a binder, and when Mrs. Young says to file, you better file! Also, you must have 3-4 pencils and 3-4 erasable pens, because white out gets to be a pain after a while. The last one is get your work in on time or else you will get no-no notes and trust me you don't want those. Fourth grade in Mrs. Young's class isn't that bad. I mean you get to go on a field trip almost once a month , and Mrs. Young is really nice. Some of the best filed trips were Lazy W Ranch and Universal Studios. Trust me , you will love forth grade and Mrs. Young. I know I did.
P.S. Tutees and penpals are fun, too.
Dear Class of 1998-99,
First, I'd like to congratulate you for coming to Mrs. Young's class. Mrs. Young is very kind, enthusiastic, and is not as strict as you think she is. Some things I personally liked about 4th grade are the many parties and field trips that we had. A field trip I liked was the trip to Lazy W Ranch. We panned for gold, did sand paintings, ground corn, and made tortillas there. Mrs. Young assigns so many art projects. One thing she does is no-no and yes-yes notes. You get no-no notes when you don't complete work. This does not last the whole year. You get yes-yes notes when you don't get any no-no notes during the whole month. You also can get a Monty Star if you only get 2 late assignments. You will have tutees from Mrs. Hardee's class. You must have enough supplies so that you don't need to ask anyone for supplies. At the end of year and start of the year, you will have no homework, but your parents will! You will have penpals from Glenoaks School to write to, too! Every year Mrs. Young does friendship books. Friendship books are small, mini-letters you write to classmates (you don't really need to mean it). You will also have reports, for example, your mission report about a mission and music reports, one about an instrument and one about a type of music, and a roots report, about your heritage. I hope you have a great time here at Mrs. Young's class! (P.S. things you should always do are turn in work on time and be very, very quiet.)
Sincerely Daniel C.
Dear Class of 1998-99,
Your teacher will be Mrs. Young. Please, please do not get a lot of no-no notes, which are slips you get when you don't do something. In fourth grade, you get a lot of field trips like Claim Jumpber, Lazy W Ranch, Cabrillo Marine Museiu, Olvera Street and Universal Studios! If you don't get a no-no note for a whole month, you get a yes-yes note and a Monte Star! If you get one no-no note you just get a Monte Star. Oral presentations are very fun, there's puppet report, dress up report, current event and my favorite--roots report! I hope you win the classroom challenge! Before you know it, you'll be writing a note for the 3rd graders!
Sincerely, Kyle H.
