We went to Avalon, Catalina Island for our annual family outing, just the five of us. It was on Saturday, August 26, 2006. Avalon is certainly beautiful, and one could only wish for a way to get there that isn't super-expensive or super-nauseating. We rented a golf cart and toured the tiny town, visited the Wrigley Botanical Gardens (yes, Wrigley of the gum empire), shopped a lot, ate banana splits, biked around, and even sunbathed (that was Sigrid). We ended our stay with a lobster and steak dinner at one of the restaurants on the quay. The trip back on the CAT over the water was...um, an adventure of sorts; it seems the second time around was too much for some unlucky person, and it made the rest of us quite ill. But it was a fine day, though perhaps not all of us will be visiting the Island again until a less sea-sick-making vehicle is devised.
