Touring the Palmetto State

South Carolina has a rich tourist industry. Each year millions of dollars pour into our state from travelers visiting from all over the United States, Canada, and even from Europe. Myrtle Beach is one of the nation's leading vacation spots and Charleston is not far behind. Many of our state's tourists head for the coast but some visitors prefer the beauty of our mountains in the fall. No matter where you go in South Carolina, from the mountains to the sea, there is beautiful scenery and history all around you.

Here are some things you want to make note of when you are doing your research. You may come across other things to add:

Are there any museums in the area?

What are the natural attractions of the area (rivers, lakes, etc.)?

Does the area have any wildlife preserves, state parks, state forests, or nature refuges.

Are there any gardens, historic sites, or historic plantations to visit?

What are the attractions and recreational activities in the area?

Where can you stay overnight in the area? (accommodations)

If possible, take your own photographs, scan them, and turn them into computer graphics for your presentation.

A visit, an e-mail, or a letter to the local chamber of commerce is also a good way to get information about an area. Many of South Carolina's cities have chamber of commerce home pages.
