We founded Autofest City in early 1996 with just two Scale 40 models - Mercedes Benz 500 SL, 1989 and Ferrari 456 GT, which we purchased at a local store. Being highly detailed replicas of the original automobiles, this ignited the passion to build up a collection. We began scoring all markets for more models and fortunately could gather quite a few from Mysore and Bangalore in India. Clyde was always fascinated by Scale 24 models and had his heart set on a Scale 24 Ferrari GTO, 1984, which had four opening features and which he felt offered the 'maximum value for money'. When browsing through a store at Bangalore, Neil literally fell in love with a Scale 18 Volkswagen Beetle, 1967, which we now call our 'Love Bug'. This model was a springboard in launching the Scale 18 collection. We were overwhelmed at the attention to detail, opening features and realism offered by the models in Scale 18. Although we did not have any particular direction in mind at that time, we procured individual models of historic acclaim. These early entrants were stalwarts of the automobile industry like Jaguar Mark II, 1959 and BMW 502, 1955 among others. Since the collection had important cars from a few leading marques, we decided to link cars within each marque together based on various Themes and Eras. The Scale 18 collection was now underway. When browsing the Net, Clyde found a few sites hosted by large scale model dealers, who offered to send free catalogues on request. They even offered the facility to order models online. Going through the first catalogue, was an exhilarating experience. We now decided that Autofest City would occupy a major portion of their lives. Since then, there has been no looking back. Autofest City Online, has been hosted expressly for those who cannot make it to the real thing. Best efforts have been put in to make the Online Version as good as visiting Autofest City in person. |
