COMING EVENTS
REMINDER . . . this page usually highlights events which:
* are primarily acoustic, and held in small-venues (500 or less capacity)
* present artists who are little-known, or rarely perform locally
* present artists who (we believe) offer a special musical experience
* showcase local (Bay Area) independent women singer/songwriters

I have been promoting live music by indie women artists in the San Francisco Bay Area for 10 years, in the Berkeley, Oakland, and San Francisco area of course, but also in the Monterey, Santa Cruz, and Felton area (in the south) to the Mill Valley, Sebastopol, and Santa Rosa area (in the north) to Davis, Winters, Chico, and Paradise (in central CA)...
and I've been attending over 70 live shows every year, all over the western states, going as far as Fresno and LA to Portland and Seattle, even to Salt Lake City and Boulder, just to attend a live show of an artist very special to me...
I have met an amazing array of artists through the years, sometimes I've become a close friend, often traveling on the road with them, even giving them a free place to crash as they tour the Bay Area...
this web site has always been a labor of love that I do in my spare time, often spending a few precious hours late into the night after a long day of work, even after attending a late night live show, it's always been something that I did because I love live music by indie women artists.

But the time has come to stop this chapter in my life, I have so many other things going on in my life and must stop a few tasks so I can pursue new tasks...
I still love live music by indie women artists and continue my close friendship with some of these artists, I treasure the joy they've shared with me over the years, and will continue to share music with many great artists...
I've often said you can go out any night in the Bay Area and see great live music, this area has so many amazing and creative local artists, and more are coming every day...
go out to a live show!

This site will stay on the web, I will always maintain my Pamela Means page, and update the Artists and Venues and Open Mics pages when I have the time, you can see 10 years of Archives of previous Coming Events on this site, you can do a PicoSearch for particular events discussed here, and you can still get some current info about indie women artists here, though it may not be as current as I'd like...
but I will not have any time to maintain a list of Current Events, you will have to find other sources for that data...
to all my musician friends, I love you and your great music, I still listen whenever I can, and will see some of you at your live shows.

The REFUGEES
consisting of
Deborah Holland
Wendy Waldman
Cindy Bullens
|
|
The Refugees is a new "super group" of seasoned female singer-songwriters which consists of Cindy Bullens, Deborah Holland, Wendy Waldman, and Jenny Yates... these four are veterans of rock, folk/acoustic, country and the road... together they represent an array of American and West Coast music songwriting and high-level performing... they are also award winning and critically acclaimed as soloists and in bands.
|
|
Deborah Holland was introduced via the critically acclaimed albums, tours, MTV videos, and television appearances with the seminal trio Animal Logic, with ex-Police drummer Stewart Copeland, and jazz bassist Stanley Clarke, where she wrote most of the group's songs... in addition to making records, Holland scores music and writes songs for film and TV, is a full-time professor of music at Cal State La, and is a mother of two boys.
|
|
Wendy Waldman has a distinguished career as an artist (solo on major labels and part of the cult band Bryndle)... her list of songwriting and producing credits is extensive and impressive, and includes the Grammy-winning "Save the Best for Last," recorded by Vanessa Williams... her first album, Love Has Got Me, on Warner Bros. Records, was proclaimed by Rolling Stone Magazine to be the "singer-songwriter debut of the year."
|
|
Cindy Bullens' career was jump-started by a stint in Elton John's band, has already included five major label and national indie releases... her debut solo album, Desire Wire (United Artists), scored a breakthrough hit with her song Survivor, which earned her a Grammy Award nomination for best rock vocal performance... Bullens was also nominated for a Grammy Award for her vocal performances on the Grease movie soundtrack... her latest release is Dream #29.

BONNIE HAYES
with her band... Kevin Hayes, Darryl C. Anders, Ted O'Oonnell,
and Vicki Randle (percussionist with Jay Leno's Tonight Show).
|
|
Bonnie Hayes has been a Bay Area favorite since the 1980's when Bonnie Hayes and the Wild Combo played Bonnie's bright, intelligent, hook-filled pop-rock songs to packed crowds... Bonnie released three albums during the 1980's: Good Clean Fun (1982), Brave New Girl (1984), and Bonnie Hayes (1987), all long out-of-print, and vinyl albums which I have and treasure... she then moved to southern California and continued to write, releasing Empty Sky in 1996, which is still available... she moved back to northern California a few years ago, and has frequently appeared in several local small-venue gigs... in November 2003 she released her fifth album, Love In The Ruins.
19 Nov 2007, latest news... Bonnie's first three albums have been out of print for many years, I had to scour used record stores to find my copies, and it took me about four years to find all three albums... but her first album Good Clean Fun has finally been released using the original master and faithfully reproduced original art, this CD can be obtained at any of her shows, or write her for details about getting a copy mailed to you.
