My first chance to sample some of what The Badlands had to
offer was in late August at the "Wabash Summer Fest" (Attica
is located on one of the tributaries of the Wabash River).
There were around 100 vehicles of every shape, size and
condition imaginable.
You were able to pre-register for a number of guided trail
runs, from easy to locker/bogger/winch required. Of course,
I signed up for some of the more severe ones! I never
back down...that's my story and I'm sticking to it! But,
since we arrived early afternoon on Saturday, we missed
hooking up on one of the runs, so we went exploring by
ourselves for a short time.
I didn't want to get to far, and tempt fate, so we returned
back to the "Base Camp" and met up with Some folks lining up
to make a run, so we joined in. Among the group were four
guys (Bill "Air Zuk" Maulding, Ben "Beanman" Klaves, Matt
and Eric) with two Samurais from Illinois. Our trail leader
took us on what turned out to be a "2" rated trail (out of a
possible "4") thru the woods. We had little trouble
negotiating the trail, so after returning to Base Camp, we
ate dinner, then decided to make an evening run with the
Sammies, with me, the intrepid trail leader.
