Wedding at Makapwa

A wedding at Makapwa doesn't look any different, does it? The carving on the church wall at the front is a large wooden heart with the Ten Commandments written on it. This is a vivid illustration that under the New Covenant the Ten Commandments are to be found written on the hearts of believers.

The wedding party prepares to leave the church after the ceremony. Note that the bride is wearing a traditional white gown. The bride in a Christian wedding symbolizes the Bride of Christ and white is the Biblical symbol of righteousness.

The Makapwa Seventh Day Baptist Church is the largest church in the Central African Conference. The church building sits on a hill on tribal land donated by the local village above the Makapwa Mission property with the precaution that if the Makapwa Hospital were to be nationalized and become a government hospital, the church building would not be included.

Baptism in the Thuchila River

Seventh Day Baptists in Malawi are Baptists. When people attending the Makapwa Seventh Day Baptist Church accept Jesus as Savior, they are baptised by immersion in the Tuchila River by Mbusa Watson Mataka.

"I baptise you in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.".
