Let the Music Roll On
Keeping in touch with some of the 'rockers'
of
Bangalore, through photographs, and updates on shows and gigs.
- The Gig Happening - Featuring
Tommy Chandy, Gussy Rikh , Adolf Fernandes (ex-Spartans, The Garuda
Band, Australia), Kitu, Ronnie Johnson and many others jamming in from
Australia, on 4th January 2003 at Dr. Tom Chandy's Farm.
- While Gussy on guitar , Ron on bass,
not sure who is on keyboard, the old duets are belted out by Tommy and
Adolf
- Kitu and Adolf in a duet of flats
and sharps!
- A solo by Kitu
- The singing goes on with Tom and Adolf
- Reflection by the listeners, not sure to
get on or off the floor!
- The musicians taking a break,
probably to recorded music (not in picture!)
- A keyboard solo, I think there was
some mischief here, he's unplugged!!
- Woah! we have a new keyboard player
!! No, they haven't shot the piano player as yet!!
- I think this was a boogie is 5/8 !!,
no, it's not 'paper roses!!'
- As the night goes on, the warmth
of the 'firewater' brings boldness to the mikes!!
- I think someone shot the piano players
as we have another one on!!
- I guess Gussy is trying to get himself
heard over the din of the singers!
- I think this was a round of Carols !!
- Imaginary piano playing a nd zubin
conducting!!
- Lenroy Saldanha and the Chandy Brothers
- err! CSY!!
- While the hubbies are playing, the wives
are swaying !!
- Bangara?!!
- Wives and others 'keeping in time'!
- More of the goodtimes
- Remarkable Husband-wife combination
, I think the band just packed in!
- A breather for the band or are they just
too sloshed!!
- Our cameraman Rajiv inbetween Maisy and
Gussy
- We've got a new crooner for the night, I
think the rest of the singers just packed in!
- Chronic Blues Band Playing at Geoffery's
Pub, in Park Plaza, Bangalore January 2003 to March 2003, (new line up,
Jan 2003) Peter Issac on Sax, Guitar, Bass, Harp, Vocals; Prashant on
Guitar, Bass, Vocals; Ramesh on Drums and Percussion, Vocals.
- The other part of the Chronic Blues Band
, Leo on Bass, Guitar and Vocals; Ronnie Johnson on Keyboards, Vocals.
Notice the wall in the background, almost daily a brick tile used to
fall out because of the emphatic drum solos by Ramesh, - just another
brick
in the wall!!

Dear Ronnie,
It has been some time since I browsed your pages.
I had sent you some e mail some months ago,re,Tangaserri, and the music
from the 60s (guitar groups)I do not see any reference to it,and my
good friend Jackie Cohen who was the caretaker of the synagogue.
I used to play with the Base commander at theUSO club(Now admiral Stan
Dawson) we had the naval band, and Stan used to play the piano. He had a
steward who was very good on the guitar and was from Perambur. The whole
family was good on the guitar...Elridge, Ryder, and his younger brother
Wayne who plays at Madras. Ryder had come to the States and we
jammed
like in the old days on board the Vikrant.
Incidentally, Dr.Thomas Chandy is my youngest brother, and I gave him
his first electric guitar which I made myself. I still haven't learned
to read music, but play by ear. I had been to the Saint Josephs dinner
and dance held in Toronto, and organised by Mr.Peters who graduated in
the 1940's.
We sang the school song as we took pictures. I do not know if they have
been on your site.
I am grateful to you for mentioning my father Kora Chandy in your
Bangalore, and also for the nostalgia after looking at the pictures.
I would require your permission to permit me to organise a fund for the
good
work that you have been doing, where I could contact Old Boys from the
schools of Bangalore (basics....SJEHS, Cottons, St.Germains, Clarence,
Cottons, King Georges, etc etc.)
As regards modeling, my wife(Yvette Chandy) was active in organising
fashion shows in Bangalore some years ago,and was also on the panel for
Miss India selections. If I can help in any way, please give me an e
mail.
Incidentally...if you are in touch with Admiral Stan
Dawson, please give him Ryder Vanderputts number.
613 9700 1111( Ausrtralia) As he was the ambassador to NZ he should
know the country/city code.
Take care
Joe Chandy

Thought for the Day: " Blessed are you poor, For yours is the kingdom
of God. Blessed are you who hunger now, For you shall be filled.
Blessed are you who weep now, For you shall laugh. Blessed are you when
men hate you, And when they exclude you, And revile you, and cast out
your name as evil, For the Son of Man's sake. Rejoice in that day and
leap for joy! For indeed your reward is great in heaven, Fon in the
manner their fathers did to the prophets. But woe to you who are rich,
For you have received your consolation. Woe to you who are
full, For you shall hunger. Woe to you who laugh now, For you shall
mourn and weep. Woe to you when all men speak well of you, For so did
they fathers to the false prophets."Holy
