| Chapter 5 | ||||||
| A few hours later, Brian stepped into the shower in the enormous, white tiled bathroom of the hotel suite. As the shower came to life and hot water cascaded down, scalding his skin, he thought once more of what Lucy had said to him that afternoon. He didn't know exactly what it was that Holly wanted him for. If she had one wish in the entire world, why would she wish for him? She didn't even know him! Then a thought hit him: shortly after becoming a Backstreet Boy, along with fellow bandmates Kevin Richardson, Nick Carter, Howie Dorough and A.J. McLean, he had briefly dated a girl named Holly. That had been in Orlando, where he had gone to school before having to be tutored due to their extensive touring. He had dated her for a couple of months, but nothing had come of it. They hadn't been much of a match from the start, so they had inevitably broke up after their short dating period. He had one fond memory of their relationship, though. On their one-month anniversary, he had left roses in her locker, along with a letter that he had written her himself. The whole day had gone perfectly. He reveled in the memory for a moment before sudsing up his hair with Leighanne's shampoo. He figured that if he had to leave her, he might as well at least bring her smell with him. He began to weep at the realization that he might never see her again. His tears were quickly washed away by the sharp spray of the shower, and he rinsed his hair. He turned the faucets off and grabbed a large towel from the nearby towel rack. As he dried himself off, he returned to his thoughts of Holly, the one he had dated. He decided that this new girl couldn't be her, because they had ended on pretty bad terms. After all, he had eventually left her for someone else. He shoved the thought out of his mind and returned to drying himself. He wrapped the large towel around his waist and walked out of the bathroom. He walked down the short hallway to the bedroom he and Leighanne shared. He turned to the closet and rifled through his clothes, trying to find something good to wear. As he undid the towel and let it drop to his ankles, he located the perfect shirt: a navy blue Nike T-shirt that he always felt comfortable in. He grabbed it and was about to thrust it over his head when he felt arms circle his chest. He looked down and recognized Leighanne's perfectly manicured nails and slender arms. She kissed his back, and let her arms slide down his torso to just below his waist. He felt a twinge of excitement race through his body as Leighanne's fingers teased him, resting just below his hips. "Not now, Monkey Boy," she whispered, sensing his excitement. "You have to save yourself for tonight. We're gonna have us some fabulous lovin', just you wait." Brian felt a twinge of guilt enter his system, and a lump rose in his throat. He would likely be gone before he could feel his wife's body pressed against him again. Then again, maybe not. He dropped the shirt in his hands to the floor and turned around. A mischievous grin played upon her lips and she beckoned him to come closer to her. He obeyed, taking his wife in his arms and pressing his naked body firmly against hers. Although still clothed, Leighanne could feel his lust for her increasing, forming a bulge that pressed against her belly. "I told you… you have to wait," Leighanne whispered, her words catching in her throat. "We've got all the time in the world." "If only we did…" Brian murmured, feeling his skin catch fire and his legs turn to jelly. "Oh Leighanne, I can't leave you…" "Well, you have to," Leighanne said, regaining her composure. She stepped back and popped him on the chest. He looked so vulnerable that she wanted to take him to bed right then. "Otherwise, it wouldn't be as great tonight… and I want it to be electrifying." She smiled at him once again before turning around and walking out the door. Brian watched her until the sound of her footsteps disappeared before leaning down to pick up the shirt he had chosen. He put it on and searched for a pair of pants. He settled on a pair of khaki cargo pants. He pulled on a clean pair of Donald Duck boxers before sliding the pants over his legs and zipping them up. He closed the closet doors and glanced at his reflection in the full-length mirrored doors. He realized that he had forgotten to put on socks, so he walked over to the dresser in search of some. He opened the top drawer, but saw that it was filled with Leighanne's lingerie. He smiled and closed the drawer. He moved to the next one, but once again, found nothing of his. When he reached the bottom drawer, he spotted a pair of his thick white sport socks. He pulled them on and headed out of the bedroom. He returned to the bathroom and heard water running. He opened the door, and a blast of warm air was thrust into his face. He wandered through the bathroom until he stood in front of the shower. Through the white shower curtain, he could see Leighanne's silhouette moving rhythmically along with the beat she hummed. Brian smiled and turned to the porcelain-mounted pedestal sink. He turned on the taps and wet his hands. He thrust them through his hair to dampen it before opening the medicine cabinet in search of some gel. He found some and ran it through his hair, defining the curls that lined his forehead. Satisfied, he left the bathroom, closing the door quietly. He walked down the hall until he reached the living room. He sat down on the large leather sofa and reached for the remote control. He turned on the big-screen TV and surfed the channels in search of a sports network. He searched through the hundreds of channels the hotel’s satellite system offered until he settled on a TSN. He settled down to a game of golf and was just getting interested when he felt the chilling feeling that Lucy invoked in him which he now found familiar. Without hesitation, he turned and saw her sitting at the other end of the sofa. She smiled at him, and all of his previous fears of her vanished. "I know this will be hard for you, but I strongly feel that you have made the right decision, " she said. "How did you know what I've decided?" Brian asked, not arguing with the fact that she was right. "I know," she said. "The Creator knows. You have done the right thing. And in time, I feel you will welcome this walk into the darkness. Are you ready to go?" "Almost, I just have one question," he said. "Anything. Go ahead," she instructed. "Well, when I'm gone… what will people think happened to me? I mean, will I just disappear, or what?" he asked. "Time will freeze either until you get back, or until you decide not to come back,” she said, seeming prepared for the question. "Great! You mean, I can come back?" he asked, his body flooding with relief. "If that is what you choose, yes," Lucy said, her warm smile gleaming in the light of the sunset that streamed through the patio doors leading to the balcony. "I do!" Brian said, eagerly. "You can make your decision later," she said. "Are you ready to go now?" she repeated. Brian hesitated. He heard the shower faintly running from the direction of the bathroom. He focused his attention back on Lucy. "Yes," he answered. "I'm ready." |
