| Chapter 7: Salvation | ||||||
| Nick and Michele neared the doors and they could already see the others waiting anxiously. Alexandra suddenly noticed them and notified everyone else. They all turned and saw the two approaching. "Here we go..." Nick muttered quietly under his breath. Michele replied with a smirk and mumbled back, "Yep. It was nice while it lasted." Nick shot Michele a look and winked. Nick went up to one of the doors where he saw Jennifer looking at him. Nick shrugged when he could tell she felt helpless. He tried reassuring her that he was fine, that it wasn't a big deal, but Jennifer seemed determined to get him out. She missed him and was worried about him. Orianne waved at Michele and Michele smiled. Orianne questioned, with a quick glance to Nick, how the time with him had been. Michele rolled her eyes and pretended to strangle an invisible neck. Orianne laughed and she turned around when she saw Michele's gaze drift past her. A car had pulled into the lot and a middle-aged man emerged from a blue two-door car. Kevin walked up to the man and shook his hand. "I'm terribly sorry for this inconvenience," Kevin apologized. The man, who introduced himself as Charles, replied, "Ah, that's okay. I guess whoever closed should've checked the store first." He searched his pocket and pulled out a whole bunch of keys. He flipped through the keys until he found the rightone. With a click, the door that Nick was at unlocked. "Thank you so much," Melissa said to Charles. He smiled and got back into his car. Nick pushed the door open and Jennifer ran into his arms. "Oh Nick! I was so worried!" she exclaimed, showering him with kisses. Michele followed after Nick and was met by Orianne. She hugged Michele and was saying something about how they were worried but Michele was not listening. She was looking at Nick and Jennifer longingly. She knew she promised to be cool with it, but after what had happened between her and Nick, she couldn't look at him the same way. The others had approached Michele to express their concerns and she thanked them for their thoughtfulness. Brian and Orianne walked Michele to her car and she waved bye to the crowd as she pulled out of the parking lot. She glanced in her rearview mirror and saw that they were headed to their cars as well. She looked at the clock on the dashboard. 11:45. Michele couldn't believe it had all happened in one evening. It wasn't even the next day yet. She arrived home at 5 past midnight and saw her machine was blinking. She hit the "play" button as she sifted through her mail. "You have one new message," came the computerized voice. It was followed by a beep and then the sound of Kaitlyn's voice filled her bedroom. "Hey Michele, where are you? It's about 10:30 now... shouldn't you be home by now? Anyway, give me a call when you get home. Any time is fine, I'll be up late. Talk to ya later babe." There was a click and then a whir of the tape rewinding. Michele decided she would take a shower before calling Kaitlyn back. She stepped out of her clothes and caught her reflection in the mirror. Her fingers brushed the spot on her collarbone where Nick had left his mark. She sighed and started the shower. Fifteen minutes later, she got out and put on her bathrobe and towel-dried her hair. She headed to her phone on her night table and dialled Kaitlyn's number. They chatted for a while as Michele explained how she was trapped in the store with Nick. She was hesitant on telling her the details and she knew she promised not to but she was itching to tell someone. And between Kaitlyn and Orianne, she'd rather spill the juicy details to Kaitlyn, the one NOT going out with Nick's best friend. "There's actually more to it," Michele revealed slowly. "Oh?" Kaitlyn said, her interest suddenly peaked. "Go on..." "Well, um... you can't tell ANYONE! Swear it!" "Okay, okay! I swear it! Big secret. Got it. Now tell me!" Kaitlyn urged. "Nick and I... well, we're not really enemies anymore..." Michele disclosed, being careful with her choice of words. "So you two bonded and became friends. What's the big d- OH!!! Ohmygod!!! Nooooooo....." Kaitlyn exclaimed as she realized what Michele was implying. |
