Chapter 19: Finalities
“Nick... please...” Michele murmured, half-heartedly begging Nick to stop. Her mouth was speaking one thing while her whole body ached for the other. “People might see us,” she said, trying to find an excuse to stop.

Nick paused momentarily and looked around. With one quick movement, he pulled Michele into the ladies’ room and locked the door. “There. No one will see us.” Michele still remained hesitant as Nick ran the back of his hand softly on her cheek. “What is it?” he asked quietly.

“Do you feel that we should have thought it through better as well? I mean, it’s only been two months and we’re all ready to disregard everyone in our life for one moment of passion again. Should we reconsider our decision before we hurt the people we supposedly love?” reasoned Michele.

Nick sighed. “You’re right... I just don’t know what to do... I’m not very good at handling this kinda situation...” he said, trying to lighten up the mood. He could see the distressed look on Michele’s face and he embraced her. She defeatedly lost herself in his arms and she closed her eyes, hoping everything complicated would go away.

“So did you like my little surprise?” Kevin asked Alexandra.

“Yes,” she grinned, giving her boyfriend a kiss. “Very much! Did you know A.J. was going to propose?”

“No, actually. Although the singing and everything HAD been his idea... I guess he’s been planning this for a while... It’s sweet, I think. Those two have been together for so long, it’s about time, I suppose!” Kevin gathered.

Alexandra smiled up at Kevin. “You think we’ll ever get married?” she asked dreamily.

“I can’t wait for the day you become my wife,” Kevin replied softly. He bent his head and kissed Alexandra. “I love you so much.”

“I love you too,” Alexandra said, putting her arm around his waist.

***************

A.J. and Jamie were sharing their first slow dance as an engaged couple. Jamie smiled up at A.J. “I can’t believe you did that...”

“I’m sorry baby... I wanted to do something differenta nd surprise you...” explained A.J.

“Aww, sweetie... you don’t need to apologize! It was the most perfect proposal! I wouldn’t have had it any other way...” she replied, as she stood on her toes to raise her slightly to meet A.J.’s lips.

Their kiss was followed by cheering. A.J. and Jamie turned to see Howie laughing with Melissa rolling her eyes and giving the couple an apologetic look.

“Howie, you’re so childish!” teased Melissa, giving her boyfriend a slap in the arm.

Howie looked at her and said, “Yeah, and I know you love it...” He winked at her and it sent butterflies loose in her stomach. They had been together for so long and he still managed to provoke those feelings within her.

“Yeah, yeah Sweet D... you know my weakness...” she smiled.

“Ty, have you seen Michele?” Kaitlyn asked. Ty shook his head as he looked around the room. He spotted James, however, and directed Kaitlyn over to him. “James, where’d Michele go?” Kaitlyn repeated.

James shrugged. “She went to the bathroom, but actually it’s been a while now...”

Ty looked at his girlfriend. “Maybe you should see if she’s okay,” he suggested. Kaitlyn nodded, handed Ty her drink and left the two men to talk amongst themselves.

Jen stared at Kaitlyn as she brushed past her. Jen was talking with Brian and Orianne when she overheard the conversation between James, Ty and Kaitlyn. Orianne gave her a warning look but she ignored it as she excused herself to follow Kaitlyn. Orianne sighed defeatedly and she led Brian onto the dance floor.

Just as Kaitlyn neared the bathroom door, with Jen at her heels, the door clicked and swung open. To the girls’ horror and surprise, Michele walked out. With Nick. Nick quickly noticed they had company and before he could explain, Jen ran off in tears. Michele looked understandingly at him and he ran off after her. Once Kaitlyn and Michele were left alone, and beforeK aitlyn could express her disapproval of the situation, Michele said, “I don’t want to hear it...”

Kaitlyn sighed at her best friend’s lack of good judgement. “So what’s going to happen now? And, c’mon, you couldn’t be more subtle??”

Michele stared blankly at a spot on the wall. “I don’t know...” she replied distractedly. “Nothing happened in there anyway... we were talking about what we were going to do...”

Kaitlyn looked at Michele in disbelief. “Yeah. Right. And try convincing Jen of that.”
